Nothing new. There were days not so long ago when 2344 on a Tuesday night would have had the bean-counters doing cartwheels around the edge of the pitch and lighting cigars to celebrate. Agreed, boring at the moment! Ffs, long way to go yet, and she's only been in the job a couple of weeks. Let's see what goes on now.

No way she can have influence this season. Unfair to expect that. Will be aimed at close season onwards - which is fair!!!

Nothing to do with the new marketing manager apart from her realising what a massive job she's got on. Everyone else at the club should be looking at themselves rather than looking for excuses. Hearing someone mention the Champions League to supporters was depressing.

It was all new back then though tbf. Maybe the novelty of success has just worn off now and can't be matched by a few cans of Stella and watching highlights on the tube.

2,300 on 22:54 - Apr 14 with 6965 views | KenBoon | One of the things that really annoys me, is when news outlets use us as an example of having no success. The last 15 seasons have been bloody entertaining seasons. We've seen a few relegation fights. A few boring typical Dale seasons but a heck of a lot of success. We had success under Parkin inc Playoffs. The playoffs with Hill including our first visit to Wembley. TWO promotions. Some brilliant games. Cup runs. The "No fear..." half-season. Some bloody fine players put on the shirt and more. In recent history - which is all that should matter - supporting Rochdale has seen more successful seasons than bad ones. We're a good club to follow, which makes the lack of marketing (one person doesn't fix this) even harder to swallow. We're not shite-but-good-pies Rochdale any more. We play good Football. We SHOULD have more fans. Our attendances are pathetic for what we serve up on the pitch, and its down to the club. It's no co-incidence that in an era of hype, marketing and family friendly football, we've failed hard. To return to my original moan. To any news outlets wanting a 'dale fan to talk about misery/unsuccessful club, my answer is to f**k off and do some more f**king research.

Any improvement on the marketing front will be welcome, but it's about changing the atmosphere around the club in the way it engages with the town and the potential support rather than one person pulling their tripe out. I know you didn't say that's what it was, I'm just adding to the point.

Agreed, it requires everyone, including supporters, to assist the new member of staff. There has to be a complete shift in mindset amongst some.

Agreed. This lady has not only taken on Iain Johnstone's job but also the thorny issue of promoting the club to the town, which is arguably a job on its own. We could be going through marketing managers like Notts County go through football managers.

Totally agree Ken - although I sadly think Sutton started the changes - admittedly we had some bad spells but club did seem to change around then :)

I posted earlier about the infrastructure in the whole club, starting at the top. Putting this all on the shoulders of one person is of course unfair. But team Rochdale is about just that. My view is that the Directors will be congratulating themselves on a great season on the pitch. I think that underlying this Hill generated playing side success is masking deficiencies at Board level. The appointment of a marketing manager is a no brain move, but we need a Director responsible for growing our off pitch income, who can work with the new Marketing Manager to drive forward all our commercial activities. The job is tough though, to change years of acceptance that most people in Rochdale are not inclined to turn up. It's annoying when people sometimes are too accepting of failure, this, whether we like it or not is business and we need to drive continual improvement. Just like Keith and the playing staff do. Wakey Wakey was directed at the board, so good call if you think I missed the point.

Spot on. I expect her to come up with some decent ideas but she will probably have to drag the rest of the club staff, kicking and screaming. Set in their ways, comfort zone, whatever you want to call it. Unless EVERYBODY employed at the club buys into the start of a new marketing/commercial era at the club, she is on a hiding to nothing. Do the current staff have the appetite to want to see the club grow or do they see their position as just a job that they do, I don't know. I don't envy her but wish her good luck.
