The Grosvenor casino on the ground serves away fans. Been told that all the other pubs near the ground are for home fans only, but if you cover up your colours then you should be alright.

Sorry, I don't buy this "for home fans" rubbish.

It's just a matter of respect. If a gang of away fans swagger into a pub near a ground giving it large, no surprise if home fans find it offensive.

If you're just going in for a pint or two and minding your own business, it's never been a problem.

I've identified a really good boozer (CAMRA-listed) - it's 20 minutes walk away but free parking and It's not on the list on the website I linked.

Enjoy wherever you go.

That's no problem, but doesn't alter the fact there are no such things as "home fan pubs" just disrespectful away fans

You're wrong there. There's some pubs I wouldn't dream of going in near some football grounds. For example pubs in Burnley or Leeds. Have you never seen pubs with signs in the windows saying 'Home Fans Only'?

Add the Wetherspoons in Plymouth, last day of the season we needed a win for a top 7 place. A group of us went in, barely said a word, yet still it was so obviously a pub not to stay in.

It shouldn't be like that, but it is.

Yes, I've seen the signs, and yes, I've been in one or two, simply because they were convenient, sold a decent pint and an early kick-off match to watch whilst supping.

Wasn't wearing colours, acted like I was just there for drink and didn't make a nuisance of myself. No-one batted an eyelid. What's the problem?

A typical example - the Old Grey Mare prior to games at Latics.

There's a sign outside the reform club that says home fans only, and I can see why

Exactly 442
Thankfully, Rochdale is a decent match day experience for an away supporter. I know Ratcliffe Arms gets bad reviews on here, but there's probably nowhere else in the football league with such a facility that welcomes all fans.

Fleetwood's is good, also Boots & Laces at Torquay and the FAORayTrew Bar at Meadow Lane.

Having moved into the Dale Bar this season, it's worth saying how decent it is in there. Great atmosphere for the Cup draw on Monday night too.

(Adding to my own post here)

So how can I be "wrong" as you put it, when I've done it plenty of times without the merest hint of trouble? I don't go in with a group - I'll admit that could be a bit dodgy, but I stand by what I said, I completely disagree that there are such things as "home fan pubs" - signs in the window or not.

Have to agree to disagree here. I've given you a couple of examples and I standby what I said. Oh btw, I don't go looking for trouble or 'act up' either. I just like a few pints before a match...that's all.

Maybe it's just me then, but there's usually a reason why a pub attracts home fans, and that's because of it's location, ale and facilities.

A pub is a pub, and an Englishman has a right to sup in whatever boozer he chooses. No sign in a bloody window is going to take that away from me.

If the sign says "No beer" it might.

The only time I've ever been stopped is in your much-vaunted Ratcliffe Arms !!!

The doormen at The Old Grey Mare gave me a polite nod last time Dale played at Boundary Park.

Aye that's true. And there's nowt more disappointing than being served a shit pint, but then that's more likely to happen within the boundaries of Spotland Stadium than anywhere else!

D alien why the aggression? Just because somebody disagrees with you. You can't be right all the time. BTW I'd never go in a home fans pub at away games either not worth the hassle.

Agreed Bennersdale, no need for it in my opinion. Not the first time I've noticed his aggressive posting on here.
