I knew Gerry only got 12 (8 as captain, I think). I've had a few chats with him and the story of his injury is pretty heartbreaking. He might have been England captain for years. I probably would have said Les if I was pushed for a quick answer, but it is Fenwick with about 20 caps. One of which, of course, when he was roundly embarrassed by Argentina in 86... Great player for us though.

I guess playing in a World Cup plus warm up matches will bump up your caps in a short space of time.

I remember how proud I was to have a QPR player at the World Cup that year. Alan McDonald was playing for Northern Ireland too.

Over the years, when we've had good sides they've had a lot of English players in them so it was hard for them to win that many caps and if they were good enough to win lots then they tended to move on.

yeah it was more while they were playing for us - otherwise I imagine Wilkins is possibly our highest? Think Wilkins got 84 caps, Sansom 83, without looking it up. Seaman?

Don't think Seaman played more the 70 odd.

IMO Wilkins should have played more. Despite his age, when he was with us he was best centre mid in country and you had the likes of Barry Venison and Kevin Richardson getting caps

I think he would have taken the cheat out if he hadn't been booked a little while before.

Fenwick holds a record of sorts. Hes the only England poayer to get booked 3 times in a world cup finals tournament. He only played in 4 as well !!
