Twine Free Kick 15:29 - Dec 14 with 4307 viewsenfieldargh

How can Twine be allowed to move the ball at least 1 foot if not more back and away from the refs spray spot?

Cook berated the ref who didnt give a shyte

It's a top free kick. No complaints to be honest.

Never knowingly right.

Brilliant free kick, didn't matter where the ball was - it was going into the back of our net. Nor did it matter about their men making a wall.

I'm more interested & annoyed with Field making a silly tackle in that area.

He should not have been allowed to move it to the side and the City players should not have been in our wall.

It's a good finish but made easier by our wall and keeper being in the wrong place (due to the ball being moved)

Actually thought Nardi's positioning looked off and he should have done better with it

It wasn't in the corner either

It really DOES matter where the ball is positioned , if the ref has already marked where the wall should be . Moving the ball back a couple of feet gives you so much more scope to get it up and down again . These tiny things make the difference sometimes .
Cook did remonstrate and was ignored. With that he should have bought the wall 2 feet forward anyway which I’m sure the ref would not have allowed , stalling the game so more players can point to the fact they had moved the ball well away from its mark .

Yep, City beat us on gamesmanship there.

I thought the ref had a shocker . Gave 2 decisions in the first 5 minutes in front of the dug outs, a foul on Dunne which he incredibly gave against Jimmy even though the guy took a run at him and throw to City after their defender had cleared, which set the tone for the rest of the game . Complete homer

Reading law 13 on free kicks, it doesn’t actually say it’s an offence to move the ball further away from goal. Grey area?

There must be something somewhere otherwise you could just move the ball around as much as you want

You can only control what you do, not what the ref does.

He did tell them about moving the ball and then allowed them to get away with it.Opposition players are also allowed in the wall but they’re supposed to be 1m away from the defenders, which he also allowed to happen.
It was a great free kick though.

Delighted that we managed to get an undeserved point today. I would argue that the referee's performance today, was far better than our team's. Worst performer of all being Andersen.

The referee's decisions in the first five minutes had no bearing on our poor performance. What did you think of last week's referee, was he a homer too. For we were the beneficiaries of some favourable calls, which if awarded against us, could have changed the course of that game.

Didn't Toney do that in one of his first games back after his ban last January?

Very interesting point about moving the wall forward if the ball is moved back. I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a rule for that.

Moving the ball back today gave City an advantage, the rule is ten yards for the wall from the ball then we should have moved. Hopefully we can ask a Ref one day. Clive, I believe David Coote has some free time.

No complaints from me it was an excellent strike and our mobile keeper never even flinched as it flew in.Perfect time for a sub ,he just ran in ,moved the ball on top of the grass and buired it fair play where its due.
Why can we never score from a free its so frustrating and WTF is happening to our corners again its like a re infection of the disease we had before Anderson arrived

For someone who's supposedly a good passer (just as well, as I'm not sure if he's good at anything else), Madsen's capacity to hit the first man from corners and free kicks is barnstorming!

I thought that at the time. Ball nowhere near the corner and maybe he wouldn’t have got there but I didn’t think it was one of those you just have to stare at and hope. Made up for it after.

It was Twine’s corner that led to our break away goal.

We're not arguing the quality of the free kick though, but the process where the ref marks the spot where the free kick is to be taken, paces out the distance to where the wall must be, watches the keeper set up the wall, and then let's Twine move the ball to the back and side.....essentially like taking a quick, short free kick to make a better angle. If Twine didn't think there was an advantage to moving the ball, he wouldn't of. Shit refereeing.

really interested in the rule on this, never seen it before, clear advantage to be had if you can move the ball a metre or so back and to the side, much harder to get up and over the wall and on target from where it was marked. Great free kick, though as someone else said if you removed the wall altogether Nardi would have saved it with ease it was not exactly top bins
