Why are we all surprised. Bottomley more or less spelt it out before a ball was kicked that the club, with no spectators at all probably for the up coming season, could not afford to be in EFL I. The departure of Henderson was the second clue. BBM is no doubt doing what he`s been told, relegation is paramount and he`s doing so well he`ll keep his job.

We were relegated the moment the Board decided to slash and burn the team at the start of the season and replace them with kids and untried non-league players. BBM was given no chance of surviving in L1 and this injury-prone, inexperienced squad with limited talent will struggle to survive in L2.
A bigger, better shitshow would be hard to imagine.
To be honest I find it hard to blame BBM, his situation is impossible, he hasn't even been able to field the same team for a run of games without losing players to injuries.
The Board is 100% responsible and needs to own this by explaining that they knew relegation was a probability and that there is a clear plan in place to stop the rot.

Time to admit defeat!
I've been listening to commentary for years but the last 10 games or so bought viewing passes.
Don't know tonight's final score 'cos turned off at around 80 mins but I'll bet "we" didn't trouble the 'keeper or that net he's protecting!

I've also been on this forum and it's predecessors since Col began RochdaleAFC.com. and been fortunate to meet many posters at games - mostly away - some having departed this life, no longer to witness the current shenanigans of our club. I've enjoyed hospitality in the form of an over night stay when deciding to enjoy the camaraderie in Rochdale to celebrate promotion,(Cem clique alert) and decline my lift home, instead hitching back the day after.

It's difficult to affect anything when fans forums are virtual, and even more so physically when 230 miles plus away and no sight of stadiums ever being non restrictive, if open at all!

Admittedly the beer is talking but sheeesh it's become a necessary component of watching this whole debacle.

Anyway, after 20 years of being here I've decided enough is enough. This site and the official one is being deleted from my favourites. There are far more important things in the world and my life so until the old normal comes back - it won't - that's me done.

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

Of course the board are hugely responsible, but there has been more than enough in the squad and the players available to not be at least where Burton are right now. There’s enough evidence on here to illustrate how BBM used the players in an ineffective manner over a prolonged period of time with a failure to address issues until we were in the midst of another run without a win.

We had every chance of surviving, the club, at various levels, has failed the fans.

BBM interview - "players giving absolutely everything"

Where we are in the league table is "disappointing".

https://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/2021/march/watch_bbmpostshrews/

Not sacked? Madness.

"Support for the team and the players has been amazing". "I'm listening to what the supporters are saying". "The only way we can change it is on Saturday".

"The players are giving absolutely everything"

Playing budget being used as an excuse. We been "competitive in the league for large parts of the season"

"Can we turn the season round" - "absolutely"
"Can I do it? Absolutely no doubt in my mind whatsoever"

Budget now being used as a massive excuse when last week it wasn't an excuse.

Apparently the poor home form and results have been abysmal by his own admission but we as fans don't understand "the context".

Get out of our club. You are taking the piss out of supporters.

It helps that the interview questions are much more probing and proof that he’ll answer when asked. Credit to him for that.

Mentions of Keith Hill seemed a bit strange as surely he wouldn’t want to be seen as an extension of the Hill regime.

Edit: on context - yes, we do get it. Completely. There was no context required when it came to getting defenders to think about defending first and foremost and to use attacking players available when you’re short of attacking players. One thing that will undoubtedly wind fans up the most is to hint at the fact we might not get or accept the “context”. Once more, at various levels, the club is at the moment failing the fans. That’s the only context required.

Around 8 minutes 20, he admits that performances have been poor, which directly contradicts his prior assessment after many recent losses, when he thinks we’ve played well.

I’d still love for BBM to prove us all wrong and I do genuinely admire how principled he is but there’s just very little evidence to suggest he’s capable of turning things around or building a competent squad for next season, whichever league we’re in (I’ve come to accept the board have no intention of sacking him).

I might be able to help with context. We are rock bottom. We've won 6 out of 34 games with only 28 points. We're scoring 1.21 goals/game and conceding 1.85. We’ve scored 1 goal in our last 8 outings. Our defending is keystone-copsesque most of the time. We can't cope with any sort of press against us. We are a small finesse team which tries to play like Barca but ends up playing like Bamber Bridge. We have chronic recurring issues with injury prone players. Our team is disjointed. We play players out of position every week. We have no continuity. We are as dull as three day old dishwater. We have no plan B. We stand around at throw ins, corners etc and look unprepared. We don't make changes when they are needed, only when they are too late. We have potential. There is a saying in US sport media - potential gets you fired. It would be a good question for tomorrow. In what context can any of the above be construed as positive. If I could be @rsed. Hopefully he won't be in attendance tomorrow though ...... but I'm not holding my breath

Have the board any idea of how much damage they have caused this club with their seemly couldn’t careless attitude ? Yes we get the fact we’ve no money but when you say we’ve no money do you mean 1970s / 80s no money with a sh!thole of a ground and kits washed so much they changed colour !
These guys don’t know what running a club with no money is all about. We are millionaires compared to 40 or 50 yrs ago.
All it would have taken is a change of Manager before the window or even in it.
A statement that said “ As much as it hurts us to sack BBM we must put the health of this football club first. We can’t afford to employee a new manger so we have put Tony Ellis and a couple of senior players in charge as we need a change of direction to try and save our Div One status.
Had that been done and we were in the same position we are now I would like to think you would have the majority of the fans backing and the reason for that is that you showed us you actually care about OUR beloved football club.
We have not heard one word from anyone on the board regarding the mess we find ourselves in.
As a board of directors you are a total disgrace, spineless the lot of you !

There's no need for any supporter to write anything after this. Perfectly articulated.

There is a need for the directors to respond to the situation the club is in, assuming they've actually noticed recent results, the dismay of supporters and the league table. .

Perhaps they don't give a shit. Looks like it. Shhhh....

I'm convinced there's a huge sulk going on behind the scenes, because we refuse to kow-tow/toe to them

Many Chairmen & directors have earned great respect from the fanbase over many years, and i'd add the our current Interim Chairman would be included in that, but we need to hear from someone. The silence is deafening
