What level are we playing at?

For a good part of last season, especially when we went on our seemingly never ending run of defeats, I would say we were playing at Conference level or possibly below that. So far this season, we have been well beaten by a Championship team and a League 2 side without really looking like scoring a goal.

It's hard to know whether this team is any better than last year's. One thing is for sure though. We won't be getting the 15 points start we had then so it's going to have to be a lot better to survive this time round.

I'm at the Edinburgh Festival for the week so I can't be there today, but I'm with you in spirit. Even if we get nothing today I'm confident that, with a couple of additions, we will have better quality than last year. So despite what the bookies say we won't be going down this season.

Ins and outs at Forest

There will be a few changes for Forest ahead of our opening day visit. Looks like strikers Simon Cox and James Mackie are on their way to Reading, Henri Lansbury to Burnley and Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles to Newcastle for £7m. According to the papers, the last two will be loaned back to Forest for the coming season and will be available for Saturday.

Unlike Blackpool, Forest are not afraid to invest in players having just smashed their transfer record to bring in Britt Assambalonga from Peterborough for £5m and the very underrated Michail Antonio from Wednesday for £1.5m.

Villa fans 'no abuse' code

The Aston Villa official website has ordered fans to agree to a 20 point code of conduct which includes

"You will not partake in any abusive conversations towards anyone associated with the club in any public forum"
