Well everyone seems to think Marti is a good manager so it’s telling that he has kept Begovic as captain. Don’t think Cook has ever been captain at any of his clubs by the way.
He reminds me of Another Superb goalkeeper who was well past his prime when he came to us in Luděk Mikloško.
Like Begovic, Ludek was in the top tier of world keepers in the early 90's but by the time he came to us he was slower than Ironside getting down to low shots/crosses. Be nice to get a younger keeper in but He's better than matt ingram.
i can't get too worked up about it all to be honest.

I think prime Lev Yashin would have struggled with the defence Miklosko had in front of him. I thought Miklosko was quite good but then at the age I was I thought little Danny Murphy was going to be Roberto Carlos.
Yeah you are generally right but burgerVan is awful, it's like having a NON performing seal in goal
You're falling into the same trap. Complete hyperbole to suggest an aquatic mammal would be as good. To be clear, I don't particularly like him, I think he is a poor GK and I would be very happy if Walsh or Salamon could step up for the rest of the season but, based on what I have seen thus far, they still don't have the gamecraft of Begovich and that is what is probably keeping them out. I have no doubts these are his last few games but he is all we have atm so let's just suck it up and keep supporting the team.
The Rotherham keeper would be a good summer hire or maybe Marti has his eye on someone in Denmark...
Well he'd be an upgrade on our current keeper but firstly he could be expensive. Secondly, can he play with his feet? There has been very little evidence to suggest that he can as Rotherham don't play that way. Then, most likely we will have the recently relegated player scenario, and the way they are heading at the moment, one who is and may be going to continue to concede numerous goals. He may well be damaged by this season.

That's fair enough.
Ludek would have had more protection wearing a leather lace up condom on the film set of a Hamburg 70's Dirk diggler porno with the defence we had at the time. I'm just comparing the ludek i witnessed at Upton park dozens of times in the early 90's when i lived in east ham and all my mates were Season ticket holders in the chicken run.
The man was a gatekeeper back then, in a crap West Ham side, and For me , just wasn't the same at QPR when age had crept up on him. He's stll not a patch on Stejskal though!
Reminds me of a Hammers supporting mate who gleefully recounted that during Ludo's spell at West Ham he'd found himself dining at an adjacent table while sampling the pleasures of a local pizza emporium somewhere in the vicinity of Woodford Green. His initial delight at spotting his team's keeper turned aghast as he realised on observing the way the Hammers' number 1 was peering at the menu, that he was as blind as a bat.

That's triggered PTSD flashbacks of Lee Harper. For the love of all that's holy, make it stop.
And I have to ask - WTF has this got to do with it
'And to cap it all, he is a scruffy oik !!!'
Anyone who has to revert to personal insults has already lost any argument
Was a light hearted comment
Scruffy oik
Hardly an insult
Crikey I don't understand why people get so upset at things that said tongue in cheek
Basically I said he is past his best and an expensive option for what he gives us which is limited
And asked why this was BS but got no response as opposed to that
Questioned him being captain and was told was BS. Think we have players better suited to being captain.
Sometimes can feel like it's really not worth posting any opinions if people seem to get so offended by nothing more than an opinion about a player
It's definitely why this recent generation struggles the most with their mental health. It's a very worrying situation tbh and feel sad about it all. People are most definitely much less robust than previous generations and because the written word is so often misrepresented, problems appear that aren't problems.

I reread your post, I don't see anything constructive in the way of criticism, I just see it as another poster jumping on the bandwagon to slag him off.
He may not be what Marti needs for the team, but he has been the captain prior to him becoming manager. Why upset the team dynamic and dump him as captain?
You seem such an expert on MHI then maybe reflect on how that would impact someone
But then he was a result of lazy recruitment and have made random assumptions about his contract and wages so strikes me that wouldn't bother you.
We have 9 games and as many have said, why dump a keeper who has probably played little to no football in at the deep end of a relegation battle and become the targets of the boo boys

Firstly you slag of EVERY aspect of Begovic’s game and call him an ex goalkeeper. You fail to give him any credit at all.
Mainly though it’s this tosh which is literally just made up nonsense as you have no idea about the recruitment process, his wages or the terms of his contract.
“But all points to extremely lazy recruitment choice and if his wages and contract set to say he plays when fit and when he plays then he is captain. Terrible choice if his wages so high”
You can post what you want but expect to be called out when it’s clearly BS.

No, it's your subjective opinion that it's "clearly BS".
Just as it's my subjective opinion to agree that it was extremely lazy recruitment to sign a 36-year-old who has barely played in the last two seasons, then make him your first choice (only choice?) goalkeeper and club captain. That's how you get to the last nine games of a crucial season with a barely mobile goalkeeper who doesn't make many saves. The positive side is that if you're Steve Cook or JCS, then you sure as hell don't want to let the opposition get anywhere near your goal.
Generally, forums tend to be places where people post their subjective opinions.

it's not 'subjective opinion' to make unsubstantiated and pretty ridiculous claims about what his contract says, is it?

This is a forum of fans opinions and thoughts. None of us have the full facts
People being reprimanded for ridiculous claims because they don't agree with the other persons opinion.
Err this is a football fans forum.
Journalism always has elements of unsubstantiated facts. It's not right but it always has.
A fans forum is about fans opinions. Ridiculous that others get lampooned and told not to post just because they 100 percent do not know facts. None of us do, we are fans.
My own personal opinion is Begovic is not captain material and it seems a strange choice. There probably isn't a clause in Begovics contract to say he should be captain. It was only said because to me, as captain, he does not seem on the surface to have the right characteristics in my opinion, and it could have been an explanation for this.
I personally didn't think he is a leader and his skills are definitely lessened as he enters the last stages of his career but of course will get behind him. He is our player at the moment and never said wouldn't. I don't have anything personally against him and hope he performs but the above is just my viewpoints.
Apologies for stating an opinion. Bit mad.
My surname is not Cifuentes so clearly I not in 100% of the facts
That's nuts
If fans are only allowed to post opinions that align with your ideas Antti, then this site would quickly fold as that's its main purpose of being.
Fans are all entitled to post whatever they believe to be true. We all have different ideas and opinions but that's what's makes this place a diverse and interesting place to be.
If we all in your world had to 💯 agree with each other, this site would spontaneously combust rather rapidly !!!!
I am glad we all have different ideas and feel that is actually a very positive thing. If we were all the same, the world would be a very dull place to be.
Likewise on a Queens Park Rangers football fans forum !!!!
Well of course there’s a difference but in our position fighting relegation it’s minor: we won’t get relegated due to goal difference, it will be due to lack of points. We needed the outfield players to score some goals to earn us points which they sadly failed to do yesterday so your agenda that Begovic was mainly responsible for the defeat is clearly wrong.
"We won’t get relegated due to goal difference".
No offence to you intended, but that comment has really given me the heebie-jeebies
"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
