http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/03/high-court-to-rule-on-brexit-legal-ba

Looking at this from afar I am wondering what's going on? Maybe explains why remainer May hasn't done anything since the referendum result, expecting this outcome?

That's a bit low, Metallica - it almost sounds as though you want to see this woman attacked by a raging mob.

... and I thought the first referendum marked a low point in British politics.

I don't agree, parliament is sovereign because of the will of the people that is the cornerstone of democracy. Parliament does not have the right to give away its sovereignty.

but it's not giving anything away, the judges ruled they should as elected officials have a say in this as they would with any law being passed.

I find European people far more genteel - must be the good coffee and fine wines.

The really bizarre thing is this mad clamouring for an unknown quantity as no one knows what 'Brexit' really entails. It's almost as if people think that anything will be better than the status quo. It won't.

Wow.

I've spent a few minutes just trying to fathom this post. We live in a country where but months ago a sitting MP was assassinated by a man who gave his name as "death to traitors, freedom for Britain". Both my wife and I have been subject to physical and verbal threats and abuse since the vote. And here you are seemingly advocating for a woman to be attacked for a successful legal challenge. Like the law doesn't apply for people you don't like.

I grew up being told how great Britain was. We're so tolerant! We're the best we beat the Nazis! We stand up for democracy everywhere! Law and order and justice. But turns out that's a load of nonsense - we're no better than any other race to the bottom horror show. I wake up every morning with an intense sadness at what we've become. Don't @ me

Yeah, the sooner we live in a country where parliamentarians, lawyers etc can be intimidated, assaulted or murdered because people don’t like their viewpoints or because they win a court case against the government, the better. Russia, Zimbabwe, Eritrea…these are the countries that set the standards we should aspire to.

One of the great things about Britain, is that citizens can challenge their government in court and if the legal argument is on their side, win. That’s to be cherished, isn’t it? I find it rather comforting that my government is expected to follow the law. I realise that we now live in a country where expertise is eye-rollingly dull, but personally I reckon these three QC’s probably have a firmer understanding of British law than Paul Dacre.

Just out of interest, Jo Cox: did she deserve to be murdered, would a kicking have sufficed or should politicians, judges and citizen activists be able to hold differing views/interpret the law without the implied or real threat of violence? There's no conspiracy against the people, it's British courts upholding British law. You'll still get your Brexit - whatever the fuc k that ends up looking like.

There may be some nutters on both sides but I would suspect that the majority were fairly close to voting the opposite to which they actually did. It wasn't a straightforward decision for most normal people. So what if some of the newspapers are a joke? Who really cares?

Putting the range of opinions on Brexit/Remain in geographical terms, I think that most people are sort of between Maidstone and Lille. The Mail may be in the Orkneys and others might be in Malta or somewhere, but most people I think are fairly marginal either way, and not affected by this lunacy.

For those who wonder why, it's because the left is now the Establishment. The people at the beck and call of the legal system, run by the leftist elite.

For those who voted Leave, the majority of us though you wouldn't believe it, we are about to get pi ssed on from a great height.

Brexit will mean people 'get their country back'. Apparently it's been stolen. Police are currently looking for it but have been unable to find it.

Once the people have got it back they will be free to turn anyone away who speaks / looks a bit odd, and have freedom to roam around from Land's End to John O' Groats* rummaging through bins for their food.

OK Alex Jones, you're starting to lose me.

Really, I think this is the Britain that is of more concern to the world!!

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/britain-is-now-the-second-biggest

Anyway, it is a shame to see some posters (many of whom I respect) who are understandably disappointed at some of the extreme, divisive generalisations used in the press then go on to join in with extreme, divisive generalisations themselves.

If such empty emotive rhetoric is so abhorrent (which it is), why focus on it and offer nothing but snipey returns thus increasing its hold and effect on the situation?

I think if left to honest reflection, an extremely large majority of us would acknowledge that there are pros and cons to being in Europe. As I have stated before my concern (built up of 20 years observation) is that the central power base at the EU is utterly dominated by the very institutions and ideologies that I know for certain many Remainers on here deeply, deeply oppose. That is my key focus as I genuinely believe that we are in the middle of a swift and ultimately devastating power grab that will greatly affect the future chances of a representative democracy that is even allowed to put people/our communities first over the wishes of global corporations and the central banking system.

For those with a genuine interest who want to discuss the issue and share information and view points instead of throwing snarky OTT rhetoric around (whilst complaining about snarky OTT rhetoric!) please read this, I would love to hear people's thoughts.

https://corporateeurope.org/international-trade/2016/10/great-ceta-swindle

If we're so worried about the country becoming a hotbed of angry division, let's make sure all of our actions are a counter to that. Listening and debating with an open mind, as opposed to the instant defensive 'my side is so right and the other side is so wrong and awful' tribalism, is an absolutely vital part of that process.

I'll do my best to do so as well!

Love and peace

Tell it to her kids.

And while you're at it, explain to them how some dickhead saying something stupid on fking Twitter is the same as their mother getting shot.

You come here constantly, whining and moaning about how put upon you are and what a victim you are of "political correctness" and the "lefty elite" and all the rest of this meaningless bollocks, posing as common-sense-salt-of-the-earth when actually the problem is you won't take any responsibility for your own life.

Jesus Christ - according to the Mail one of them's not only an ex-Olympic fencer, but also "openly gay" - is that really the sort of person we want holding Parliament to account and upholding BRITISH law? Think about it - he's so depraved, he doesn't even have the decency to hide his sickening perversions.

As for the other "out of touch" openly hetrosexual/secretly homosexual members of the metropolitan elite - it sounds like one of them''s a Europhile, which as all good citizens know, is as bad as being a peadophile. The other one charges huge sums for his service, unlike other QC's who work for peanuts. If you've missed out on the subtext - These three are awful terrible bastards.

The brave British public surely didn't fight valiantly to throw off the shackles of The continentals only to then see British judges following British law? When we said we were taking back control, we didn't sign up to this sort of legal meddling from limp wristed europhilic metropolitan Nancy boys. There's no time to waste - we must smash the independent judiciary!
