Southampton On Verge Of Minamino From Liverpool Deal Monday, 1st Feb 2021 21:53 BBC Sports editor Adam Blackmore is reporting that Saints are on the verge of completing a loan deal for Liverpool' s Takumi Minamino.
Saints are at an advanced stage to sign Takumi Minamino from Liverpool, although with a medical still to be done as we approach the last hour of the deadline at 11pm it is going to be tihat although there is the option of an extension.
Minamino sgned for the Merseyside club a year ago after Liverpool activated a £7.25 million sell on clause.
The Japanese winger was a substitute when his then team Red Bull Salzburg faced Saints in a pre season friendly in 2015 in Austria, ironically the only player left from the Saints team that day still at the club is Shane Long who will probably join Bournemouth if the Minamino deal goes through, although it should be noted that this was a double headed tournament and half of the Saints squad faced Valencia.
Minamino has so far featured in 19 Premier League games, 15 off the bench and scored 1 goal, but at 26 he has played over 200 games for both RB Salzburg and Liverpool.
With competition for places at Anfield tight, Liverpool will be keen to give the versatile attacking player who can play either wide or through the centre some experience in the Premier League.

I hope we get this one over the line as I think he would be a fantastic addition to our attack. It doesn't look as if we are going to have much luck on the full back front, so we are going to have to rely on players covering out of position if we continue to get injuries.

regardless of whoever Saints can sign... we are still likely to see a couple of our Academy teenagers getting game time tomorrow....and after all .....it is only Man Utd. I won't try and guess the result.

Would be a bit great to get him, been impressed with his performances for the Japanese national side. No doubt Maya has been giving the lad advice too.

Wouldn't it be nice to get January loans in as early as possible. Can't imagine February is going to provide much joy for saints on the pitch regardless of who from the limited pool of players available just looking to march when the injuries clear up and we finish the final two months in style.

He looks like a lightweight winger that doesn't score goals. We've got enough of those already. What we need is a goalscorer. Josh King would be a much better option.

Lets hope we get this one done. More bad news for Saints is that the Premier Leave have confirmed that Mike Dean and Lee Mason will take charge of Tuesday night's clash between Southampton and Manchester United.

This has been one of our shitest transfer market in quite a while! I mean we REALLY needed another central striker, central midfielder and left back! And out of all those 3 options we got.... NONE! I mean yeah we’ve pretty much signed this winger but that position literally has to be the one we need least at the moment yet over a month that’s all we’ve got!!! (but of course he does look decent and it can’t harm us, but it’s just frustrating that we’ve wasted a month on signing nobody we need!) Look in the end it just sums up our shit owner and board as we could’ve pushed for Europe and the FA cup but have had a major drop almost completely down to injuries, yet when we FINALLY need that money to get the players we need, that we got from selling Mane, Van Dijk, Schniderlyn etc, we get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from our shit ass owner!!! I mean other than Newcastle I honestly don’t think there’s a worse owner than the one we’re stuck with!

According to some of the "less enthusiastic reactions" posted elsewhere, we have signed " a Japanese midget who can't score goals ". Firstly, he has some pedigree to get capped for his country (who are not a bad side), and his performances in Germany impressed LIverpool to buy him in the first place. He isn't the only player to sit on the Liverpool bench waiting for Mane, Salah or Firmino to get tired, and get a 10 minute sub. app. I have watched him in L'pool games and even in short bursts, he does seem to be a handful for defenders to cope with, (as was Shane Long at his best). I think our high-press style will suit him, and he could make the difference in our attack at a time when even "our best " find it difficult to get goal chances. A real surprise signing, but if he succeeds he might be worth a bid at end of season.

The relationship and respect between hassnhuttel and klopp is a real bonus when it comes to loan players. Klpoo knows the way we play and with our transfer history - liverpool could be a real good source for loans in the future.

Incredible to think we needed cover in the full back positions but have ended up with a winger! Minamino is a good player by the way but it’s pretty damning on what SFC’s thinking is of not only the current form of our wide players Djenepo, Redmond & Walcott-let’s face it, none of them have “pulled up trees†this season except maybe Walcott, but his form has tailed off dramatically over the last few weeks-but also all of the above’s abilities to stay fit.

Let's be realistic about the situation. It was well known that we wanted a versatile full back and neither Arsenal nor Manure would loan their players to competitors. Apparently, according to some media individuals, King wanted too much money to sign for us and Everton have deeper pockets to dip into. The club has managed to get a chunk of wages off the books, for a while at least, and brought in a known commodity who could well give us some firepower up front. I'm taking the positives because I want my club to survive and if Bertie and Danny decide they want to be like King and line their already bulging wallets so be it. How long before Spurs and others find out that their creditors are looking for a return on their loans?
