Yes I know its got a poncy name now but I can't help harking back to the days when the Stinging Nettle was the Bush Ranger and one of the club's beating hearts on a Saturday. So. I was on my own on Saturday and I thought I'd give it a try. I only had a pint because I couldn't get a seat but I was very pleasantly surprised. One pint of beautifully kept Youngs Special was all it took to convince me that this might be worth boozing in, especially since I paid just £3.10 for it, against £3.70 for a pint of Adnams up the Goldhawk a little later. For fizzy-pop drinkers there was Peroni and Stella I think. There still isn't enough room there and the current tenant's decision to put little round tables in a line opposite the bar means there isn't a lot of seating space, but it was relaxed and it was comfortable. There's a telly but it wasn't on, but I'm never that concerned about lunchtime football anyway. The food looked OK and a lot less pricy than the Goldhawk. Jacket tatties for £4, Bangers and mash and ham, egg and chips for a fiver. I think you'd have to get there pretty early if you wanted a seat, but it wasn't bad. And there were a few hooped shirts in there as well. I reckon I could have the three pints and possibly a bit of food in there for £15, as opposed to nearly £20 in the Goldhawk, which is important because Will turned 18 a week ago and will be expecting the same three pints plus food.
