Oh the preseason blues, ive got a harmonica, you got the lyrics..
| "Stan work hard, could score goals in the air, and was complete team player. He headed balls off the line, and he had so much skill, balance, finesse and amazing touch. His mobility, that electrifying burst of 30 yards was exciting to watch"...Don Shanks. |

No no you're not allowed to say that! What you mean is that we are going down, the players are all sh1te and the manager needs to pack his bags, as well as the Chairman and Chief Exec. We'll be bucket collecting in non-league in 3 years.

Sutherland did OK when he came on. Seemed with MBia too we had a bit more control and threat. SWP, gulp, did very well and Hoilet got better and better. Good work out and end of pre season.

Think there is some pace upfront with Johnson.

Will make a nice change to worrying about how many goals we are gonna lose by in the Prem. I see the bookies still have us as favorites to win the league. Given they make millions from being right maybe we should try a little faith occasionally.

I would disagree with that. You can take somethings away from that game. The team is looking a lot fitter than a few weeks ago. Some players have started to make real progress (Yun for example) from unpromising beginnings. There is a degree of team spirit appearing - look at MBia and Onuha's reactions when they scored - and defensively we look quite solid. Hoilet has started to settle into a role and was beginning to exert increasingly more threat each game. Henry looked better than was expected given his lack of game time with his new team and will add something. The youth team is starting to produce some talent, Sutherland impressed me when he came on and the speed and bite he brought were very encouraging. Best move of the game started through him linking up with SWP and Hoilet on a really pacey counter attack. Oh, and we are learning to take corners so that our larger units suddenly become a threat in the box. On the less positives, Granero still didn't really convince me as being as good as he or clearly Harry thinks he is. Passing and creativity still not yet as consistent as he should be. All in all though, shape is coming, fitness is now where it should be, players seem to understand a little more of their roles and I thought there was a nascent team spirit happening, certainly as game went on, lots of talking and encouragement. Players didnt seem disinterested and wanted to put in a shift.

Southend Match Thread on 00:06 - Jul 27 with 923 views | rsonist | Only saw the last half hour but I was fairly encouraged. Not spectacular but competence and application was far improved from the dregs of last season and the Exeter friendly - a sense the rot had stopped at least. Hoilett was important and without Adel you really feel we can't afford to sell him now. Agree Sutherland was very reminiscent of Rowlands and looked like he can handle the step up - could be a player we've sorely been wanting for if nurtured right. Mbia controlling and passing looked much sharper than usual from what I saw, maybe he's just found his level eh.

Southend Match Thread on 11:39 - Jul 27 with 620 views | smegma | First half we looked lethargic but Harry must've said something at HT as we upped the tempo from the first minute to last 2nd half. Sarfend fans are an odd bunch with a load of them sat near us in West Stand trying to wind up anyone who came near the touchline. Hill mugged off a few with some sarcasm 2nd half. AJ really impressed me all game .
