| Forum Thread | Sponsor a Goal at 12:05 31 May 2015
Just got the letter from Peter Woodhouse, asking me for a cheque and to confirm whether I want to sponsor a goal again next season. Funnily it's the same letter as last year, a single sheet of A4, no club crest, plain text, riddled with typos. It's the kind of thing you would have got from Sunday school, inviting you to the 1974 garden party. Staggeringly it, doesn't even have a return address! Yet, it states that "off-the-field income is very important to the club." Obviously not important enough to give you a return address, or an alternative means of payment, I think the last time I wrote a cheque was for this last year. The thing that's most amazing is that I made the suggestion the form was improved when I returned it last year. So sum total of improvement "off-the-field" = zilch. Bloody Rubbish |

Welcome back to a proper League Club. Commiserations to Grimsby, next time eh? Another real club who should be in the League. |

Given our league position, there is a possibility, no more than that, but it is POSSIBLE for us to get promoted to the Championship. A league where we would have clubs bringing circa 3,000 to Spotland for nearly every home game. Together with increased floating and local interest we would average 6,000 home gates, with the odd game pushing capacity. Imagine Wolves or Leeds on Boxing Day!! Listening to Chris Dunphy on the radio the other day, on the topic - the prospect of promotion - it suggests to me that the logistics side of promotion would be too much for him, and I guess to much for the present board and the non footballing part of the club. Unless, unless - we have a plan for what infrastructure and personnel, investment we would implement. I am not saying we would implement a plan unless we get promotion, but it would be wise to have a plan for how we would deal with more than trebling our footfall, before it happens and we wake up in early June wondering, sh!t what now. I'm talking about ticketing, allocation of seats, stewarding, policing, catering, pricing, security, media facilities, ground improvements, maybe improving segregation arrangement to allow max capacity. The list would be long. In fact a lot of the things on the list would be good ideas for pushing up our commercial activity in L1. Fix the broken seats for a start!! If we don't go up, fine, the plan exists and can be kept updated for if it ever happens. Do we think we have a plan? Maybe a question at the next Trust Meeting? If the answer is to shrug the question off, with a chuckle and "we'll worry about it when it happens" then we know for sure there is a problem. The board need to up their game now, that might mean introducing new board members who have the skills required, the footballing side have done so and, in my view, the commercial side has some catching up to do. To fail to plan is to plan....... |

Unchanged from the Crawley selection? Think that's likely unless Allen starts instead of Camps? Lots of pace on the bench. |

If I were Keith Hill, next season I wouldn't bother with a cup run, I'd think about getting relegation and knocked out of all the cups as soon as possible. With average gates of 1,500 there won't be any problems getting tickets and the moaners on this board will be happy. |

Whilst basking in that rare glow of glory. Not the best strikes necessarily, but the most dramatic. To qualify you have to have been in the ground to count them. My top list, in no particular order: 1. Steve O'Shaunessey v Northampton FA Cup - The Sandy went bonkers with over 9,000 in the ground 2. Paul Simpson away at Rubbish and Dustbins, play off semi final, my mate was just saying, not from there...... 3. Gareth Griffiths v Coventry FA Cup 4. Matt Done, away at Orient this season 5. Ben Muirhead penalty v Darlo Play off semi pen shoot out 6. Rory McArdle v Stockport at Wembley Look like we won't be going to Dover in round 4..... |

So. Another one of THOSE games. Expectation rising. Visiting side; in second place, well supported local team. City and Utd meet at Eastlands on Sunday. Oldham away. Bury at home, declining form, v Cambridge. Floaters may be up for a fix. Estimated gate? I'll go 5,379. That would be nice. |

Just listened to BBC Radio Kent commentary on the game. They can not believe they have managed to steal a point. "Dale should have been out of sight" [Post edited 18 Oct 2014 18:36]
