Barrow (H) Match Thread on 18:32 - Mar 11 by pioneer | I was there….first home win back in division 3 after an uncertain start to the season. We were about to go on a a run of high scoring games and victories then ended with us topping the division. 6500 crowd but main sigificance of game was steve Melledew scored the only goal in what was to be his last game for the Dale before signing for Everton the following week. I vaguely recall it being a header into the far corner at the Sandy lane end…. but that could have been the previous home game, the 3-3 draw with Bury mentioned on another post. Of course Steve returned to Dale as captain 7 years later after not making it at Everton but a more successful time at Aldershot. |
My first game. The goal was scored in the Pearl St end, i was stood in the Sandy and can picture the header going in. Its all i can remember though.

Any ideas for a new hobby, because until Stockdale goes I won't be. Clueless. He can copy and paste his post match interview again.

Yep, He'll be his usual"frustrated" self post match......nothing changes especially our ability to put on another shite show against similar poor team. where's the teams minerals? It's a good job Oldham and Scunny got beat to hold onto the relegation positions. We are only hanging on.
Barrow (H) Match Thread on 17:18 - Mar 12 with 3294 views | 1907 | I can honestly say I’ve had more entertaining trips to the toilet compared with watching this Rochdale side. You’ve got to go back a long, long way to find a side so lacking in quality all over the pitch. It’s really become desperate stuff and only thanks to incredibly late goal in the Oldham is todays result not disastrous. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Is this what it's really come to......? We had been dicked (by Carlisle) only a couple of days earlier than the 3-0 to Sutton so one point from 9 is acceptable? Not really,we are the pits.
Barrow (H) Match Thread on 17:36 - Mar 12 with 3090 views | HullDale | I'm calling it now - I don't think we're making the play offs this season. If Campbell puts that chance away in the first minute its a totally different game... still can't decide if it was a bad miss or an excellent save. The tempo, aggression & style we saw the team trying to play with at the start of the season seems to have disappeared. Similar to Carlisle away, we were second (at best!) to second balls in the middle all game. I get that Charman is stepping up from non-league / part time, but he has been here over 7 weeks now... if he isn't fit enough for even 30 mins in a match like today it suggests a bigger problem with him or our fitness staff. Keohane / O'Keeffe doesn't feel like it clicks. Done runs a lot but doesn't look like scoring. We're not playing Campbell to his obvious strengths. Its laborious watching us try to take a free kick, corner or throw in. If the squad have given up on the season already I'm very, very worried. In the same way I said in January that a team in our position then puts a play off run together and it could be us (naïve I know with hindsight!) there is also always a team where we are now that sleepwalks into a relegation battle. I like Stockdale and I really want him to succeed... but we need to start seeing a bit back. I've never found it easier to love the club, or feel closer to it, than I do now. BUT, I'm finding it almost impossible to be excited by, let alone love, our current team.
Barrow (H) Match Thread on 17:45 - Mar 12 with 2986 views | 442Dale | Wasn’t a great game but we really are devoid of quality. I’m afraid that’s the way it is and although it might not be what we all want, for now it’s the reality. Technically players are a step down from what we’ve been used to over the last decade and a half and those margins are the difference. Do we want to be better? Yes. Do we have to accept the lack of good results and performances? Maybe not. But sometimes clubs will go through periods in their history like this. What was visible today was a team giving their all and knowing it probably is still short of where they’d all want to be.

Barrow (H) Match Thread on 17:46 - Mar 12 with 2975 views | swiggy | I think it says it all that the majority of the match thread is about a game played over 50 years ago! Perhaps because todays game had absolutely no merit and about as forgettable as your last fart. I can’t even be bothered to go on about the failings in selection, tactics, substitutions etc. I’m not angry any more, I’m just bored. 😴 😴

Barrow (H) Match Thread on 17:54 - Mar 12 with 2885 views | Shun | Just putting the match to one side for a moment, I quite enjoyed today. Up until our insipid performance drained the life out of the ground I thought there was such a nice atmosphere. With the almost celebratory mood of the excellent Her Game Too movement, the youngsters on the pitch at kick-off, and the added numbers to the crowd (there seemed to be more than 2,900 there to me!), it was nice to behold. It shows what amazing things this club can achieve when it puts its mind to it. Also, something I haven’t noticed before, but Matty Done doing sign language on the big screen before the game was a really, really nice touch. Top marks to all involved! (Except the players and manager - that was poo)

Missed all the pre-match / half time stuff, but good to hear Just another typical L2 goalless draw between two average teams. Thought we created more chances than they did but they came closest to scoring with the header that hit the bar / or Lynch saved, not sure which Nothing to get excited about or overly concerned, imo. Going unbeaten at home for over five months is keeping us above the real danger zone

And, although nobody in their right mind is claiming things are good, our goal difference being worth a point hasn't really been mentioned. (And for anyone reading, YES, that is what it's coming to because when you're in a promotion/relegation battle, what other clubs do and what other factors are at play is sort of relevant)

Barrow (H) Match Thread on 18:37 - Mar 12 with 2560 views | NorthernDale | Today we dominated the game, but the game was dire. Sadly RS seems unable to change the system we play, with the result we did not look like scoring against a poor Barrow team. For the first time at the end of the game, I heard mutterings of discontent about RS and the team performances.

Barrow (H) Match Thread on 19:02 - Mar 12 with 2403 views | DaleiLama | I just hope we can somehow build a cushion between ourselves and the drop zone and that allows a more "no fear" football to emerge. Robbie promised us entertainment. He's getting paid to coach us but I very much doubt he would pay to watch that if he wasn't. Timr for a trip to the brewery tap for some alternative therapy. Edit: Talksport radio said Utd had 1 goal from 148 corners and Spurs 2 from 140. Would love to know our stats for last 3 or 4 seasons. Not pretty reading I suspect [Post edited 12 Mar 2022 19:09]

Barrow (H) Match Thread on 19:37 - Mar 12 with 2213 views | boromat | I can see what RS was trying to do today and it did work. We were more solid and physical unfortunately it was to the detriment of our creativity however we did still create we had plenty of shots but probably only the one clear cut opportunity. 2 points dropped today but happy we kept a clean sheet.

Today wasn’t great. Nobody disputes that. We are where we are, wanting better is fine. But accepting reality is not a bad thing.
