I suspect this is another subtle troll but I'll reply as there are plenty of others who actually hold the genuine beliefs that you're conveying.

Here is a quote from Russell Martin on 30th July 2021 when asked about the vacant Swansea City position:

"I plan to be here (MK Dons) for a long time".

https://www.miltonkeynes.co.uk/sport/football/boss-martin-reassures-mk-dons-fans

Here is a photo of Russell Martin two days later.

Yet so many here are happy enough to buy into the verbal diarrhoea he continues to spout, apparently because we have returned to a style of play that is easier on the eye, albeit currently, less successful in terms of results.

I say this frequently, but Swansea City supporters, as a whole, are the most gullible and simple minded football supporters I know of. It really is bemusing.

Did Roberto Martinez 'in general understand verbal understandings'?

Martinez was at Swansea for 2 years 4 months. He was at Wigan for 4 seasons. He had opportunities to go to bigger clubs. if the club is the size of Liverppol and the salary in excess of £5m then of course no chairman would block the move. Whelan extracted and understanding with him.

Aston Villa that is a different matter. Brighton or Norwich are not big enough clubs to allow a release. I believe he will not leave Swansea for at least two full seasons unless the management lose faith in him. Swansea would have asked for loyalty and patience when offering him the package. His job is to install a philosphy which underage teams are attempting to follow.

I am concerned if the likes of Brandon Cooper and Cabango cannot be trusted in a possession based game having come through the ranks. it should be a minimum requirement as at Barcelona or Ajax.

Whelan hasd a gentleman's agreement. From Wiki

""Martínez signed a three-year contract worth £1.5 million and was assured by Wigan chairman Dave Whelan that his job would be safe for the next three years, even if the club suffered relegation"".

He stayed for four seasons and only left on relegation.

And none of that is particularly relevant to the original point you made ie that fans are meant to blindly take managers at their word when they say heart warning things about wanting to stay at the club.

Now you're changing your point to make it out that the circumstances aren't right for him to go yet. Which is fine, but in that case you should apologise to the readership for your comments.

We re a pretty passionate bunch Dwight and right now Martin is clearly seen a a saviour ,incredible really when he has no history at all meriting that.#
It is because we are desperate ,as we should be,and hurting because we have screwed up a great promotion chance two seasons running, mainly due to Cooper..
We want to feel better.
It's why Russ is loved by this site and perfectly understandable.

I thought I was warming to him but Ive gone backwards ,as we did yesterday,as this chap wants an inexperienced unproven ingenue goalkeeper to replace Hamer who would be ok if he wasnt nagged into this ridiculous tippy tappy garbage .

I am beginning to get fearful again about Martin although he has utterly won over this ite and others.

We are gullible,as are most fans.

It's why we bitch with each other too,as those who are worried, but wont admit it always portray themselves as better fans. Enough evidence of that on this site alone.

Trust no manager 100%.

Martin has done sweet FA to date apart from spout wonderful but vacuus entences

If we don't win anything this year I won't be overly concerned, provided we continue to entertain and make a significant improvement to our style of play.
One step at a time and no doubt we will continue to have set backs like yesterday.
I like so many are enjoying being entertained once again. We've been spoilt with it in the past 15 to 20 years.
Exciting times.

I hope that RM doesnt go.

But then again I hoped that Martinez wouldn't go to Wigan or Potter to Brighton.

As has been said MK Dons fans also hoped RM wouldn't go to Swansea!

You are doing what you normally do and rewrite my words with completely different meanings and present them as my words. Please stop this practice.

No one should take Martin's words as gospel. I pointed out that in the past there has been regular changes in management and the club now needs stability in manager and playing style. It is my opinion that there will have been an understanding that Martin will be shown patience and in return Martin will be expected to be loyal for at least 2 or 3 seasons. (with the proviso that he can go for a Champions leagues team). All the academy players are playing in this style. The likes Scott Butler, Eriksen and Jacob Jones are all required to be fit for 'Martinball' under the supervision of Kristian O'Leary.

I gave you an example of this with Martinez at Wigan. He was initially given a 3 year contract and promised patience. He was not only loyal but actually stayed for 4 seasons. It did his career no harm at all as he proved himself. Martin needs to do the same and finish the strategy at Swansea. He knows it.

Brendan could have gone after promotion but had an agreement with the chairman for one season in the PL at least and a massive £7m buy out clause.

Cannot believe a criticism of RM is that he 'didn't win anything' at MK. A club bound to relegation in League Two when he came in. How dare he not do the treble! Ridiculous point

Bound to relegation? They were 21st and eventually finished 19th.

They were hardly 15 points adrift when he took over.

They are in league 1 we are in the championship, not as much of a difference in standard from the championship to the PL.

The practice of showing up your constant contradictions and falicies?

So you started off by saying members of the forum "do not understand verbal understandings". Implying that Martin is true to his word (he's here for the long term etc).

Now, "No one should take Martin's words as gospel".

You are up to your normal tricks again I see. You stated that I said the fans should blindly accept what Martin has said in public. This a fake. I suggested that fan should not accept public statement by managers as gospel. They can change their minds for example.

However Martin will probably have accepted a gentleman's agreement that he will stay on to finish the project unless offered a big club job e.g Champions league. This is eye to eye supported by a handshake with Mr Winter. This is a moral position. "I want to stay here for a long time" said in a press conference is not a promise. it is a feeling on a particular sunny day.

A verbal understanding that he will not leave for any bog standard PL club like Brighton or Norwich before the project is 2-3 years in is an agreement between two individuals. Martin prides him self on good conduction and keeping his word I would imagine. He would not go to Norwich now even if he wanted to.

Potter could do this as Jenkins left ad he apologised to the fans for his behaviour. He has suggested he walked into a club under more turmoil than he expected. The club might on the other hand expected better signings than Asoro, Celina, Mckay and John he wasted £7m on.

His words are important if it is backed up by an agreement with the chairman and a commitment to see the project through and not being distracted with other clubs. They are indicative only but also valid. They should not however be taken blindly. He has mentioned wanting to stay in Swansea more than once. It is a good sign but only a sign.

I am conscious that in these threads you like to have the last word. Threads like this become very tedious. I am not in the business of discrediting your posts. You are welcome to your opinions. Please observe the rules of the forum regarding abuse.

A verbal agreement you don't know exists. But you accuse the readership of not understanding such agreements...... Even though you've fabricated the existence of one.....

And then said that we shouldn't take Martin's word as gospel.

Unbelievable.

Would doubt very much they will take a punt on him too many think he stabbed previous Manager in the back .

Can’t see this one having any legs to be perfectly honest.

As others have said, he hasn’t achieved anything yet, no top half finish to his name in any league, would be a strange appointment for Norwich even considering the personal links.

Would be awful timing for us if it were to happen of course, but don’t for a second think it will.

But does go to show that these long term plans for a manager people talk about, don’t exist. No such thing as transition seasons, every season is one to attack. By the time you suggest the “transition is over”, they are gone.

I find it quite bizarre anyone tries to justify themselves to DYSS.

Only appears when we lose, along with Kilkenny not worthy of any kind of response.
