Thoughts?

I and those around me must have been watching a different game thought he did OK...even in defence and he can also cross the ball.

Didn`t get a lot of help from Mckay in defence but gave the ball away and does not look comfortable with the ball at his feet and constantly chose the wrong options. In fairness only his first outing.

He's not a very good footballer.

Could you let us know which young Welsh footballers making their debut for us are fair game for slagging off and which aren’t?

Because you had a go at Dwight (which in most circumstances is ok, but he was being reasonable for once) for his criticism of Dan James so far this season and yet are not giving the same benefit of the doubt for John.

I’ve admiration for the young lad. Lifelong Cardiff boy who’s prepared to back himself and join us. Same as Jazz the other way round.

Good for him. And I didn’t think he did too bad today. Some mistakes, but no more than most others to be honest.

In fairness Lisa I wouldn’t imagine he had many options when he was unable to get into Rangers 2nd side

I took issue with Dwight because he said "James doesn't deserve another start for a while after his last game" which was Millwall. Not sure what part of that sounds reasonable to you, he did okay in a game where we had ten men. I wouldn't have commented on more level criticism of his performances as a whole this season.

Declan John has coming up on 100 senior appearances spread across three major divisions (and some internationals). Dan James has made 2 senior starts, of course he gets the greater benefit of the doubt. He's a promising young player making a massive step up.

Maybe not, but it’s still a big step for him as it is when players brought up in one go to the other.

Saying he’s a crap footballer is unfair. Saying he didn’t do great in one game, fair enough. Give him a chance before he’s written off.

He said he didn’t deserve a start for a while, not that he was a bad footballer which is what you’ve said.

John is only 22 or 23 himself isn’t he?

He is crap though, Lisa.

Came through the ranks as a winger, at a late stage in Academy was converted to left back. Yes, played in the Prem for us but defensively was poor. Loaned out to league one, league two clubs - did poorly on both stints to the extent couldn't hold down a regular place.

He was with us under what four, five managers. All realised he wasn't good enough at Championship level. We wanted rid for ages - anybody offering £2.50 and a hot dog could've had him - no interest.

So he goes to Rangers... who were happy to get rid of him after a year.

I get your general point but expecting him to magically improve when he's been crap his entire career is as overly optimistic as me thinking we'll easily stay in the Prem this season. If he does become a quality player, then sure, it's money well spent as a decent profit could be made. If he doesn't, well it's what 500k for a squad backup player.

EDIT: Warnock gave him a few chances - playing left wing as a sub. Like Warnock or not, think most would agree he gets the best out of what a player has. If he was more than happy for John to go, speaks volumes.

This is the standard he sets where ever he has been, that's why his previous clubs get rid of him so cheaply, has this not crossed your mindset you extremely naïve bloke.

They overloaded his side. It was often two on one, or 3 on one and a half with Dhanda. I'm not saying I think he's a good player (or should be in before Olsson (or Naughton come to that), but they targeted his side heavily and we didn't do much to support him in dealing with it.

Today was a young team, ridiculously disrupted by injuries, allowed to be kicked tp bits, bullied and harassed. Do people still seriously think we are going to beat these kind of teams easily? That was a tough point today, well earned. Yes, we need to find our way at home, apart from patches vs Leeds, it's not really clicked yet, but we need some luck with injuries to have any chance of developing patterns, combinations and confidence.

Today was a bit dour, even grim in the second half, but in my view, we're doing alright.

“expecting him to magically improve when he's been crap his entire career is as overly optimistic as me thinking we'll easily stay in the Prem this season. “

I’m not sure it’s quite that optimistic Bluey...

I’m actually not saying he’ll be good, bad or indifferent, I’m just calling out the double standard which is unfair. He didn’t stand out today one way or the other to be honest in a thoroughly mediocre performance all round.

He was obviously instructed to get forward more when we went 3 at the back but he lacks Olssen's pace and never once looked like getting behind their defender in the way Olssen can which is a useful attacking threat so I'd pick MO ahead of him for that reason alone.

I reckon that young players like Dhanda, Celina, Roberts, Asoro et al will be a lot better players by the end of the season. You could see Dhanda today for example, slow of thought and deed at times simply because of inexperience imo.

He wasn’t the bad. Good going forward but touch let him down. Has hardly played, way too early to write him off.

Ran his socks off too, with very little help ahead of him especially second half. Not his fault we've signed a bunch of kids who've played little football between them and now we're asking them to battle seasoned pros week in week out.

He'll be ok. Easy to look crap when you're bombing on and lose the ball, and then the cover isn't there. We were wide open down that side though, must do better collectively - god knows how Forest didn't exploit that more.

He's played for Cardiff, so is therefore nowhere good enough for us. No one should be judged just on one performance FFS. For the parochials, just a reminder he's from Merthyr, not Cardiff.

Agree with much of that in terms of the season so far.

In today's match Yan Dhanda failed to track back or pick up the runner on the overlap in the first half and left Declan John exposed a few times.

I think it's too early to make a judgment on how DJ can contribute to the side.
