Anybody watching the darts at all? Really enjoying it this year, been a great tournament. I was just reading online that former England international Alan Glazier now lives in Rochdale and still turns out for his pub team at the age of 80! Anybody know which pub? |
| Forum Thread | Bets for the season at 08:47 21 Jul 2018
I'm going to sit down today and have a study up before deciding which bookie will be the lucky recipient of my useless punts for the season. I don't go mad, it's just a bit of added interest.......Anybody got any tips/hunches? Optimistically, Dale are 40/1 to win the league, 6/1 Top 6. On the flip side, we're 3/1 for the drop and 16/1 to finish rock bottom. Can't see either scenario to be honest but they don't give odds for 'safe mid-table finish'. 9/4 to be top North West club seems to be the only vaguely tempting bet involving Dale. I like Plymouth at 4/1 to finish top 6 as I was impressed with them last season and will be interested to see what odds Tom Bradshaw is when they release the lists for top goalscorer (though he'll probably be quite short). Anyone else got any thoughts? They don't have to be Dale or League One related, though I've got very little interest in the Premier League. |

Just been stretchered off for Burton, looks like an ankle injury. Was having a decent game as well, I'm impressed with Burton. As a side punching above their weight they're surely a team we can aspire too. |

Just putting my bets on for the new season, football normally takes a back seat for me during the summer so it's quite scary suddenly seeing some of the strikers Dale are going to come up against this season. Really like Brett Pitman and reckon he'll do well at this level (hopefully not starting tomorrow), backed him at 14/1 to finish top scorer in the division.....Hendo shortest price Dale player at 33/1 but Steve Davies has got to be worth a punt at 100/1, especially if we can keep him fit for 35-40 games (unlikely, I know)? Matt Done in at 80/1. Dale 33/1 to be champions (we can dream), 10/1 to be promoted or 11/1 to be top North West club (Bury are 7/1), but the bet that stands out for me is Dale with a +20 point handicap to win the title at 14/1. At t'other end of the scale we're 9/2 to be relegated or 20/1 to finish bottom Anybody had a punt or got any hot tips? [Post edited 4 Aug 2017 19:16]

Not sure if anybody gets this, but there's a 2 page spread on Dale's academy success in this weekend's edition. It's an interesting read. |

Only for a month or so, initially at least. Don't know a lot about him to be honest. |

.....to the pub. Need a celebratory drink, I'll be the first to admit I thought was no way we were getting anything out of that game at half time. Not because Southend were any good (they weren't) but because we just hadn't created a thing. Credit to Hill and the substitutions though, surprised Bunney stayed on but for all the criticism he gets he works hard and it was good to see him on the score sheet. Vincenti looked laboured and you wonder if he's fully fit but love NML, looks a threat running at people and has a few tricks as well. Whether he should start or used as an impact player off the bench is a real conundrum for Hilly. Calvin caused problems and could've nicked it at 2-2 but dithered when through and was robbed, probably sums him up as a player, great linkup play but never going to be prolific. Defensively we look like there's always a mistake in us but McNulty looked just as culpable as Lancashire today. Credit for the second half clean sheet though, you can't deny their commitment to get a block/header in when it matters. Josh was unlucky for the penalty, I'd like to see the incident again, but otherwise had a solid game. All in all, a decent point in a game we even could have gone on to win. I'd have taken that at half time. |

Don't know if anybody reads it or is interested but there's a piece in it I wrote this month about how I came about supporting the Dale and trying to big us up a bit. Slowly trying to raise our profile down south. |

I'll be staying over for the weekend after the Posh game Saturday, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for walks in the area? Quite a keen walker so distance/difficulty is no problem as I've all Sunday to kill....preferably with a good pub on route. Quite happy to hop a train for anything a bit further out. Thanks. |

Apologies if I've missed it, but has there been any news on what Vincenti's injury actually is and how long he's likely to be out for? Cheers. [Post edited 2 Nov 2014 9:05]

Ok, so I live in Brighton and this was the first game I've managed to get to this season but thought I'd give one of these a go. More than impressed with what I saw, obviously the result but the fact we looked fitter, quicker and sharper in the tackle all over the park. Crawley were truly abysmal but you can only beat what's in front of you. The games against Posh and Bristol City are nice but ultimately it's the results in the bread and butter games against the likes of Crawley and Crewe that will decide our fate in this division and on this evidence we've more than enough. Standout performer for me was Jamie Allen, the ground he covered to chase and harry as well as always making himself available to collect the ball was fantastic. Dawson started slowly but grew into the game and offered a real physical presence in the second half. Vincenti is another one who was always willing to do his share of the tracking back and both his goals were well taken. Still having Lund to come back presents a very nice problem for Hilly. Done ran himself into the ground and it shows how much the others appreciated it when they were just as quick to congratulate him as Vincenti after his cross for our third. Thought Hendo had a quiet game but did nothing wrong. The back 4 were solid and Lancashire will have a real fight to displace either Eastham or O'Connell. Lanky Prince Harry-a-like,Matt Harrold caused them a few problems in the first half but once they'd got to grips with him Crawley's threat petered out and I can't remember them producing a shot of note in the second period. A word to for Calvin Andrew who came on and put himself about to good effect and deserved his goal, a nice header from Rafferty's cross. He does the simple things well, like holding up the ball and bringing others into play and got a good reception from those there. The only negatives were that Hery didn't have a particularly good game, sloppily giving the ball away far too often. You could see his substitution coming a mile off. And Logan looked a bit edgy in the first half, sometimes coming for crosses he had no hope of getting and being caught in no mans land. Though he did produce a fine save from a Prince Harrold header that was Crawley's best effort of the game. But that's just nitpicking really.....Highlight of the game was the 'Dale fans suggestion to Brian 'The Beast' Jensen that it's probably time he hung up his boots :) Sorry to ramble on, but I enjoyed that. |

Allegedly on his way to Forest for £5.5m. I remember how he torched us at Southend a couple of years ago (admittedly Ryan Edwards was playing centre half) so our prospects on Saturday suddenly look decidedly rosier. Unless they decide to draft in Gary Roberts as a replacement. |
| Forum Thread | John Joe O'Toole at 21:39 3 May 2014
It might be only worth taking with a pinch of salt but reading some of the Bristol Rovers fans comments about their post game scenes, a couple of them said that they had a go at O'Toole because he was overheard telling a fellow supporter, "I don't care, I'm going to Rochdale".......maybe he was just talking about his off-season holiday plans or maybe it's all complete bollocks but it's food for thought anyway. |
| Forum Thread | Gary Dicker song at 10:35 14 Sep 2013
As an exiled Dale fan living in Brighton I've been to see Albion a few times and think we've got a good one in Gary Dicker. Never really stood out but is reliable and looked comfortable at Championship level. Just hope he gets up to speed before the 5 months is up because I can't see us hanging on to him. Anyway the Albion fans song for him, to the tune of 'Macarena'..... Dicker, Gary Dicker, Gary Dicker, Gary Dicker, Dicker, Gary Dicker, Gary Dicker, Gary Dicker, Dicker, Gary Dicker, Gary Dicker, Gary Dicker, Heeeeeeeey Gary Dicker! Probably best not to attempt it after a few pints and actions are optional. |

Thought I'd have a go at one of these threads although there's really not a a lot you can say about that game. Was two teams really lacking any creative edge and neither deserved to win it. I can only get to games down south and the difference between the performance today and the last game I saw at Dagenham was not particularly noticeable although Hilly's first mandate was to make us harder to beat and we do look less likely to concede to be fair. Cansdell-Sheriff and Edwards look a solid enough pairing although their distribution was awful at times and I don't know if the pitch was cutting up or it was a poor choice of footwear but the amount of times Edwards hit the deck was incredible. We need Bobby Grant back simple as, I know he's a liability discipline wise but today we lacked any sort of threat going forward save for one Gornell snap shot that was tipped over. Gornell battled to little effect and Gorgeous ran around to even less. Grimes looked hungry enough in his 15 min cameo and how he's not starting over Donnelly is beyond me. Gornell looks like he might be carrying a bit of weight around the middle to me. MOM for me was JK who kept running and trying to make things happen. He also did a pretty good job on Davids (who I thought had a good game, using his experience to get Bennett booked at one point). I don't want to come across as too negative. We battled hard for the point and nobody can say we didn't deserve it. Just need a couple of wins to banish any lingering fears of being dragged into a scrap at the wrong end of the table.....starting on Tuesday night would be nice. |
