| Forum Thread | BIG Thanks To Clive... at 08:46 10 Nov 2023
I just wanted to offer my thanks to Clive for all that he has done, and will continue to do, on this wonderful forum... A bit of background, if I may, to make my main point. I'm 56, always lived in the heart of the Black Country (God's Country, obvs) and started supporting Q.P.R. when I was 4. I saw the strip and fell in love; they say you don't choose your team, they choose you, don't they ? Anyway, my Dad (81 now) took me the West Prom a lot when I was a kid. I think he was trying to convert me, but in the end, I converted HIM ! We've travelled all over watching the Rangers - remember any of these ? Chesterfield away in the rain (0-4), Cheltenham taking to their keeper during the game, Ainsworth (Rushden), that night v Oldham (best ever) etc etc And I'll be honest, we travel to less games these days. My Dad is less keen and less able, and Mental Health wise, it's really affected me - especially the last 12 months. Clive, I don't know how you do it. The impact of the last 18 months can affect us all... I grew up with a marksman from the War; he was a Wolves fan, and had been a season ticket holder since 1958. John Harris was his name, and he's passed now. We carried his coffin - a real honour... Anyway, he always went to ALL the Wolves games, but NEVER on a floodlit week game. I couldn't understand this, so I asked him one day... John thought about it, and said in all sincerity; "My Son, they ruin my weekend; I don't want them to ruin my weekend as well !" :) We all know how he feels I guess. So, Clive, thank you. For the hours spent travelling and writing, for the pain, for the toll of it all, for the financial cost, and for your excellent journalism and insight every week. I don't know how you do it, but I'm so grateful. I look forward to Sunday evenings, even after another crap defeat. But there is some solace in shared suffering... Warmest, Waz [Post edited 10 Nov 2023 8:48]
