Angel Rangel Incoming ?
at 13:38 12 Aug 2018

Apologies if covered elsewhere, but the out-of-contact Swansea 'legend' will apparently be joining us soon, according to the Currant Bun.

35, came up from League 1 with Swansea, clearly no intention of retiring just yet. Maybe a desperate move on our part, or possibly he goes the Steve Palmer route and gives us some great value in the autumn of his career.

We'll see...if it happens. May be paper talk, but you'll be hard pressed to find a more experienced midfielder who's played at so many levels and is available for zero transfer fee.

Star Wars - The Last Jedi
at 00:12 15 Dec 2017

Anyone else seen it yet ? Verdicts, opinions ? (Preferably spoiler-free for those yet to go)...

Saw it today at a 12.20pm show in the Enfield Cineworld - place was rammed out, so odd-feeling for the day and time. I guess only Star Wars could do that these days, plenty around me had clearly taken time off work to be there. Sat right next to a trendy young couple who couldn't stop fidgeting and eventually left twenty minutes before the end of the film. Fomo their motivation, I assume, but bloody annoying.

As for the film...

I thought a decent 9/10 - doesn't disappoint overall, but I'd agree with those critics who've said it drags in the middle. It definitely does, and it's a pity because lopping off 20 minutes would really have made a very good film even better. I won't give anything away, but if I were to be tempted I'd say the surprises lie more in what doesn't happen than what does. Hamill has never been better as Luke, and most of Carrie Fisher's scenes (particularly in the final hour of the film) are almost unbearably poignant. Everyone else in the cast is good as well, it must be said.

If you're a fan, I think it'll deliver for you, it did for me.

Monday 31st July - Olly Q & A, Open Training Session
at 15:06 20 Jul 2017

On the Offish that LR is to be opened to supporters on the morning of the 31st to watch a full 90-minute training session PLUS a fans' Q & A session with the manager, which could be very interesting.

This was the sort of event they used to offer to members only, I assume the open invite means that not many memberships have been sold.

Rangers Tax Ruling - Implications ?
at 13:43 6 Jul 2017

According to media sources, in the wake of HMRC's great victory over the now-defunct Glasgow Rangers tax-free bonanza vehicle, a total of 39 English clubs (Prem and FL) are being 'reviewed' with a view to some stonking tax bills being sent to those who have in the past paid players (and possibly others) via trust-based arrangements.

You don't reckon that could possibly include us...surely not ?

Something To Consider...
at 12:50 28 Apr 2017

Last season, Huddersfield Town FC finished 19th in the Championship on a total of 51 points.

This season, having spent a judicious £3.8m or so on players and brought in a very shrewdly-assembled augment of free transfers and loans, they are likely to finish a close third behind Newcastle United FC.

Whilst their manager was well-regarded, this was not generally expected.

Tomorrow, as I sit in my seat in Ellerslie and cheer on this season's underachievers, I'll be wondering when next we'll get lucky and press the right buttons. Warnock's the closest we've come to getting it right in the past ten years, but hope springs eternal.

Headline Writers Take Note...

The old Jimmy Stewart movie 'Mr Smith Goes To Washington' should provide a few match report headlines for you if we sign the big man from Fulham (as seems likely)...

Just putting it out there now...

FA Cup - Sign Of The Times...
at 16:58 7 Dec 2016

Now on the Offish that our tie against Blackburn will be a traditional 3pm Saturday kick-off on FA Cup 3rd round weekend, £10 for ST holders, £15 for the rest.

So far so good - and the Saturday 3pm K.o. is certainly welcome - but it is also announced that all of Ellerslie and half the School End will be closed for the game. When we played Sheffield United of the third tier just two years ago, I recall the whole place was open (I remember it well, as it gave me a very rare opportunity to return nostalgically to my old ST seat).

Should we even bother competing ? Have the club given up on the 'magic of the FA Cup' ? I can understand closing parts of the ground for a friendly, or midweek early-round league cup stuff against lower league opposition. But Saturday 3pm against a team from our own division ? Are we properly on our way out, or what ?

Contracts Expiring At The End Of This Season..
at 14:47 12 Jan 2016

It's a long list…

Green
Angella
Hill
Traore
Yun
Konchesky
Henry
Diakite
Faurlin
Gobern
Sutherland
Mulraney
Hoilett

And, Of Course…
Austin.

How many of those would we want to keep ? Big rebuilding job and plenty of scope for the manager to make a fresh start there. Of course, barring transfers, we're still saddled with Fer, Caulker, Sandro and Phillips till June 2017…I sense some cut losses and payoffs in that motley group.
Interesting, though.

Alan Stubbs ?
at 10:53 6 Nov 2015

According to the Mail, (no less) Alan Stubbs, current Hibs manager + former Bolton & Everton player, is the 'shock' candidate to replace CR.

He has done very well with Hibs, but whether those skills would translate from the Scottish Champ to the English one is moot. Compensation would also be payable if he comes to LR, one assumes.

Looks like TF is trying to 'do a Norwich' : they appointed their youth coach, he failed miserably and they then went to Scotland to sign up one of the best young managers around.

Could potentially be an interesting appointment. On the other hand, we'll probably wind up with Olly.

Chris Ramsey Nominated For Manager Of The Month
at 08:58 3 Sep 2015

CR has made the shortlist for August, along with Mick McCarthy and one or two other usuals.

As anyone who reads my posts must be aware, I have had grave reservations about the bloke's ability to take us forward. However, credit where it's due - with the uncertainty & turmoil of the last few weeks, it has been a decent start and it would be great to see him sock it to his critics (including me).

Fair do's for now.

Significant Or Not ?
at 16:14 10 May 2015

City match report now on offish clearly states that we will be playing our football in the Championship next season.

An assumption, or do they know something about the FFP threat that we don't ?

We'll find out soon enough : the fixture computer will be whirring its tape reels next month, and complete chaos would ensue if we were cast out after that. The league knows this and so this has to be resolved very, very soon.
