That 1973 game when England turned up when the Scots and Welsh wouldn't go over - it deserves a decent bit of coverage. Apparently the ovation that we got was something very special.
This looks about as unfathomable as any golf event that i can remember.
The only thing that I can say for certain is that those starting earlyish tomorrow might well get the best of the weather over the first two days.
I usually back loads in this but with few obvious angles I'm just going for some earlybirds that i like. If I had to pick just one I'd have Hatton. If I can have two it's Hatton and Dunne, if it's four then Hatton, Dunne, Pieters and Cantlay, but all of these are a bit short of experience to win an Open. The best with experience and form are drawn later in the day so it's the weather versus experience and I'm not clever enough to work out how much better weather compensates for lack of experience. I'd like Hatton to win though, as I just like him - a bit nuts but very good on his day.
Well, if we could beat Colombia and win a penalty shoot out then I guess that we could beat Sweden! It's obviously going to be tough and the weather looks pretty warm for the game - from now on we only get three days between however many games it is that we have left. So i think that we need to avoid extra time if possible, especially as the top half team gets the extra day before the final and they seem to have deeper squads too in that half of the draw. Of course we might avoid extra time by losing and it's all irrelevant!
Vardy seems to be struggling but it looks as if the rest will be patched up to go in again. Whether Young and Walker are fit enough to start isn't exactly clear yet, so maybe he'll have to make a change or two to the starting line up. I've got no idea what will happen to be honest. Please just win any old how!
This is the one - well if we lose we go home but if we can put them away in some sort of style then we really are in this thing with a chance now. I have a feeling that this will be one of the games of the tournament - a typical classic England World Cup game. I can't predict the outcome - it's going to be hell to watch I think - but maybe this could be the day when Dele Alli really delivers for England.
Lose the game to get an easier quarter final? I'd love to see us thrash them. I couldn't care less who we end up playing. Let's just do a proper job and give a few guys a rest, but make everyone else worry about playing us. I'd like to see Kane and Alli start the game. Give Sterling, Lingard and Loftus-Cheek a break, and change the two wing backs. But I've no idea what he'll do. I just want us to win the game, regardless of the consequences.
Bit late to start talking about the Ireland v Pakistan test, the first ever test for the Irish, but better late than never I guess.
Can Ireland set a target of somewhere near 200? If they could then this would be interesting as the pitch is a bit lively now. It's a small chance and in all likelihood Pakistan will close this down fairly quickly. To get things into perspective the last (and only) team to win their first ever test was Australia in THE first ever test.
I now have a couple of spares for tomorrow if anyone is interested - but more to the point who will win?
I'm not totally convinced by England although we obviously have a chance. Australia look stronger than us but are also very short in the betting. It's hard to feel confident about any of the favourites and one early defeat could mean elimination so I'm going to have a few wagers - Indian, NZ and the Bangles and hopefully one or two make the semis.
Surely nobody needs to apologise for putting up a couple of versions of this song? Dedicated to a Fake plastic town full of Fake Plastic people watching a Fake Plastic team.
Awesome guitar work from Greenwood in the middle here:
