It's also pleasing to hear that we can be assured the pitch is soft at the moment.
One question, some pitch experts may know the answer, why remove the snow then reapply the covers if snow + covers = better insulation? Covers alone might not be as good, right?

Seems strange they asked for volunteers to shift the snow - then say snow with covers on top is better? Hmmmm
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Unless there's plenty of snow forecast leading to possible water logging scenario added to the existing snow currently around? Not that im a pitch expert really!!!
Well it is already snowing lightly up off Whit'orth Rd. and there is a light coating building up on the car. If we get what is forecast for tomorrow any chance of Saturday being off? With Gillingham probably on an overnighter Friday will there be a pitch inspection tomorrow and what will Inspector Knacker's view going to be on the streets surrounding the Stadium?
The pitch looked ok on Sky, lot of work getting the snow off to reapply the covers so maybe that's still going on, and it'll have to probably be done again Saturday morning.

My concern would be that given the distance Gillingham have to travel, an early decision will be required tomorrow regarding the game. Given the expected snow, we may have the pitch in top condition but the snow covered surrounding area, or concerns over Gillingham travelling may see the game called off.

Indeed. A lot of time was wasted today with poor planning.

BBC forecast currently has no more snow after 10pm tonight until 10pm tomorrow and then only light snow for an hour.
It also has the lowest overnight temperature at -2.
It looks more promising than first thought, but could always change.
When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

The forecasts seem to be changing all the time, they had no snow until the Met Office site earlier, now it's heavy, light snow at midnight and same again at 6am! .... then light snow for tomorrow night until Sunday!

I blame Wincey Willis.
