How can we be in a position that we now have the highest number of infections since last January, given the so called success of vaccine rollout and the fact that over 24 million have received their third jab. I believe we are now in a viscous circle.

Because there's a new ultra contagious variant, next to no restrictions, the vaccines are only (at very best) 88% effective at preventing symptoms and there are 42 million people yet to receive a booster.
This is likely to be the situation for a number of years.

Some data in here for NI. The definitions are interesting, its not clear exactly what is being measured how, but there is some raw data as opposed to the ratios and percentages we get fed daily.
It's the evolution of a virus. It has always happened and will continue to, not enough of the world has been vaccinated yet to slow them down.
Let's hope we've got enough immunity to stop the NHS getting overwhelmed or it's another lockdown which will be the last one until the next one.
Yeah, I know how it works thanks, not getting into vax v non fax it's pointless. Just accept that we will never going to get 100% vaccination, anyway I always thought that you need a certain % herd immunity, maybe wrong. At some point we'll have to just crack on, I'm aware that is not what some want, but thats the reality.

I think Omicron is too contagious to ever really reach herd immunity.
We do have to crack on as best as we can, I don't like living with restrictions at all but we can't have people dying in the streets from covid or anything else.

All depends on whether these numbers are infected people or ill people. Are people that stupid that they compare numbers now, with mass testing available, to numbers 18 months ago when no tests were available. Hospitalisation and deaths are the only numbers that count, and only then in comparison to other years.

So there you have it vaccines do work! "Risks are much reduced" (9:56s). So anyone who applies logic, common sense and critical thinking ability will come to a bleeding-bloody-obvious choice and get vaccinated.
Obviously the minds of 'conspiracy theorists' are wired completely different whereupon the facts, data and statistics is nothing but subterfuge, propaganda and misinformation from a devious government. Or to put it another way i.e. "reality does not exist"!
And of course to pull this conspiracy off it would mean that ALL the other vaccinating world governments with varying 'cheese and chalk' political beliefs have for some inexplicable reason? All got in on the act together by putting stark differences aside, to form secret alliances to propagate vaccination programmes that some conspiracy theorists say do not work anyway. But why do that? Work that one out?

Measles is more transmissible but herd immunity is possible but at over 90% coverage with a more effective vaccine. We have been below herd immunity for some time thanks to anti lax lies

You will never reach herd immunity if the jabs/boosters keep failing after 3/6 months. How long do you wait for a more effective vaccine, 10/20 years.
If you watch Joe Rogan's latest podcast with Dr Peter McCullogh, you can't catch covid twice. So why we need to keep jabbing away at folks who have already caught it and there are loads of preventive measures and successful early treatments for the virus, which big pharma are trying to supress because it hurts their pockets.

Dr Peter McCullogh is wrong. Plain and simple.
He's not medically qualified at all and should keep his mouth shut.
