Norwich City v Swansea City : Mach day thread on 09:21 - Jan 26 by Dr_Winston | Josh Tymon won "Newcomer of the year" for the 23/24 season so clearly his ability is not the problem. Neither for my money is Key. Calling either of them parks players is just silly hyperbole. The problem is the way that they're being asked to play leaves us wide open on the flanks time and time again. They're being set up to fail in precisely the same way that Russy used to with our defence. Put players under pressure with a crap system and mistakes become inevitable. |
There wasn't exactly stiff competition for that accolade. He clearly has some level of talent going forward, but defensively he is disinterested. Going back to the parks football comment, if you'd been playing in a Sunday league match and ambled back in the way that he had when they'd scored, you'd have been buying a round after the game as punishment. In many ways that comes down to the Captain as well. I'd have been worried about the pasting I'd gave got off the captain and team mates. I doubt that Grimes said anything to him [Post edited 26 Jan 10:03]

Norwich City v Swansea City : Mach day thread on 16:15 - Jan 25 by Treforys_Jack | Wasn't Tymon our player of the year last season ? |
No. Carl Rushworth won both main awards. Tymon was given best newcomer badge. Nathan Wood won that the year before. That says it all.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Norwich City v Swansea City : Mach day thread on 22:40 - Jan 25 by SullutaCreturned | I said it could happen and I think it was Lifelong who disagreed with me the most. None of us want it to happen but anybody who thinks it isn't possible needs to wake up. The decline since we beat Luton has been sharp and rapid and it's not like we had a mmassive points cushion. The collapse that we are witnessing, how does Williams turn it around when it seems none of the team want to play for him, specially after half time, does somebody put valium in their half time drinks? Something starnge happens, they've got all the resilience of a snowball in hell...on an unusually hot day, darn global warming eh. |
It’s not like me to disagree with you. What am I supposed to have said?

The players should have some pride in themselves to be the best they can when they play, but they are clearly not doing that and the lead to that should come from the captain but it doesn't in fact his head drops and he drops into lethargic mode. Players need to wake the f up have some pride in their performances, Williams definitely needs to go, but there's also players here who need to go.

A proper captain like Roy Keane, Stuart Pearce etc would have given them hell game after game. But, as you say, Grimes seems to do exactly the same thing, Disappears and stays silent.

Hell during the game as well and in good teams it wouldn't be just them doing it. I think Grimes is a good club captain but I think that it needs a more forceful personality on the pitch to captain this side, if there is one. Irrespective of what players may think of Williams and his tactics and it feeling like Groundhog Day, on the pitch it needs someone to drag them out of their lethargy and losing mentality.

Id go three at three back when Darling comes back for the Sheff Wednesday game, maybe we won't be so wide open then. Next 5 games make sombre reading Coventry, H Bristol City, A Sheff W, H Stoke C, A Blackburn, H

Everyone hated three at the back under Martin, but it would fix some of our major problems. Grimes dropping between the centre backs Fullbacks tucking into midfield/not getting back to defend Would give us more height and power at set pieces both ends Key and Tymon would have to provide all the width, but wouldn’t have as much defensive responsibility.

I'd go flat back 4, fullbacks actually playing as fullbacks and Grimes at least 30yds further up the pitch. Also 2 up top.

We don't essentially use fullbacks, ours venture up over the halfway line leaving us exposed, so playing the three CB's will help us with that problem or it should.

In one of Roy Keane’s recent interviews he said that although he was captain it was quite an easy job because there were captains all over the pitch and they knew what their job was and just got on with it. Just as it should be.
Norwich City v Swansea City : Mach day thread on 17:42 - Jan 26 with 804 views | RichardO | With the new Centre half and Darling back in the team I would venture to going to three at the back at times during games, with Grimes further up the park. Alternatively go for a flat back four with Grimes still further up the park. If you go for three at the back you have to use the fullbacks as wingbacks ditching the use of wingers and using the two defensive and two attacking midfielders and one up top as done with Martin. If you go four at the back then while you encourage full backs forward their main job is the protect the flank, at the moment their mind set is they must get forward to win games and we cannot do without them further up the park hence they throw caution to the wind and make some really awful decisions.

I would say that Grimes takes no notice of any instructions. He probably watched Ronald Koeman as a kid and thinks he can do that. He needs to be told he can’t.

I know, that's what I see as a huge problem for us, that's why I'd go back to a traditional 442

I would disagree unless Williams really doesn’t want walking football. Fair to say Grimsy has been outed and it’s about time . I suggested selling him two seasons ago but nobody wanted him that much He’s that good He’s full,of himself ,for sure

I watch kids football on a Saturday morning , one U13s team in particular and I have to say the team captain for them would shame Grimes in terms of cajoling, encouraging and providing a reminder every now and then who they play for .Grimes is not a Captain and no shame in that but football is not only played with d feet but with the head and mouth, recently the footballing side has deserted him and the Captaincy, well we can all see it for ourselves.

Ey oop Boundy A captain in football isn’t as crucial as say rugby as regards decision making on the field but a captain does lead Grimes doesn’t ,he never has. He is utterly selfish in that regard He has been indulged for years and we need a change of tack

It was always going to be slower played across the back line with the new player in placed but even then slowing down the game doesn't benefit us if it is done too often we lull ourselves into a false sense of security leading to mistakes. Got the impression it was all being played far too slow for him. [Post edited 27 Jan 16:16]
