RZ Wrap: Darren Bent Saves St George's Day For Derby Sunday, 24th Apr 2016 13:41 by Daniel J Sewart Darren Bent has not had a much of a season but at least he will remember the time he saved St George’s day for all Rams fans. After a fast flowing but goal — less first half, that Derby had slightly the better of, it seemed likely in the second half one of the two teams would find a goal. The Rams looked most likely as they carved multiple chances that they just as quickly fluffed. Then the visitors made their hosts pay with a fabulous rocket from Barry Bannan that flew into the net and had Rams fans holding their heads in hands after wastefulness came back to haunt their team. It was looking as if all would leave the iPro deflated late in the match after Wednesday had taken a second half lead but Dazzling Darren changed all that with his first touch after coming on as a substitute. A brilliant run by Johnny Russell saw the in form winger glide past a bunch of Owls and top off his great work by putting in an inch perfect cross that Darren Bent met with strength and power at the far post. Cue wild celebrations and questions about who should be leading the line after so many chances were lost while you have a genuine finisher on the bench. With only minutes to go Nick Blackman should have won it and frankly all Rams fans will be wondering how he didn’t, after he failed to trap a perfect ball into the box. All he had to do was score or pass it to Darren Bent who was in more space that the moon. Instead he muffed it once, muffed it twice and then produced a facial expression that may represent what a person looks like when their last vestige of confidence has just imploded. Either that or he was trying to add up his goal tally as a Derby player. Is it possible they sent us the wrong Nick Blackman? Anyway I don’t like to bag our own players…. but frankly Darren, next time please bring on Camara, Weimann or even a training cone as that would have looked less awkward standing still on the pitch, than Blackman did moving. Sorry that’s enough… Nick is a Ram after all…. One of us… Except we didn’t cost 3 million pounds…. But if we had… I feel we would have given the club more value…!! On that note, it’s time to wind this up. A good performance against an opposition who were a better standard than any we have met for over a month. We brought tempo and flair to the table against a quality team, which is very encouraging as we have rarely done that in 2016. Good signs going forward. We will have more reaction, reports and opinions in coming days as we power towards the Semis. COYR!!
