If you have been waiting to decide what number to get on your new collared DCFC kit, you are now safe to head to the club shop and avoid looking so last year on match day as Derby County have released their squad numbers for the 2013 /14 campaign.

Johnny Russell gets a chance to redeem Fabrizio Ravanelli’s number 11 while Chris Martin will hopefully be the number 9 DCFC fans have long wished for and as of April 7th next year, Will Hughes will proudly wear his age but until then like many youngsters will be displaying a fake I.D.

The most exciting name on the list has been allocated number 5 as Shaun Barker closes in on a return from injury, hopefully some time before Christmas.

Although still a long way off it gladdens the heart of every Rams fan that their inspirational skipper is close to a return so he can partner inspirational skipper Richard Keogh at the heart of defence.

Nathan Tyson, James O’Connor, Theo Robinson, Adam Legzdins, James Bailey and Tom Naylor are still transfer listed so will not receive a squad number at this stage.

Conor Doyle also misses out as he seems set to go out on loan any day now.

Like a broken down race horse - it must be a lonely feeling running around bare backed and unwanted - but luckily unlike their equine counterparts - the players are unlikely to end up at the Knacker’s yard.

That is unless they are signed by Forest or Leeds, which would be a far worse fate.
