Why would it be a nightmare to regulate? When the keeper catches the ball start counting, as the story says, at 5 put your hand up and use 3 fingers...1...2....3, if the keeper is still holding the ball it's a corner.
I think it has to be taken further though, lets say after 3 incidents the keeper gets booked then ONE more time it's a red. If refs actually punish them the keepers will stop doing it.

No, theyntried this before with 6 seconds. The keepers carried on doing it, the players harangued the ref when he gave an indirect free kick and slowly the refs stopped enforcing it.

How do you know they can't measure 10 yards.
The 6 law was enforced very easily when it was introduced. Goalkeepers made sure they got rid of the ball.
It will be even easier to enforceme now the 4th official can easily count to 8 seconds as he is in communication with the referee. | |

Exactly what I mean, as I said fearlier, they'll forget about in in a couple of months, it'll fade away because the refs will get tired of the players having a go at them. Which is daft because when the players give them verbals then book them and send them off if needs be. All it takes is for them to enforce the rules strictly for a month and the bad behavioiur will become a case of here and there and not the norm. | | | |

This is one of a few reasons why I've stopped PL football , too many times the ref makes up his own laws or disregards the ones already in place , another is the placement of the ball for a corner kick , if a professional footballer needs to steal a couple of cms so he can kick a lightweight ball into the goal area then perhaps he needs to take up another profession. | |

The story is one of a whole series of rule changes. For a time keepers could only move within their area as long as they bounced the ball. Then a four step rule was introduced so that regardless of bounces keepers could only take 4 steps with the ball in hand. Then there were other changes.

I started out as a keeper under 11s and in the end was an all rounder in more ways than one, so played in every position but mainly keeper until early 20s unril it played on me that I was pretty weak going to my right side, so that was the end of my george heyes days .....and it was a 4 step rule. | | | |

Good idea, have an independent time keeper in a box who just watches the keepers and when they catch the ball he starts the timer on the big screen.
