Yep, 17 league apps for Lynch and 29 for Bazunu.

So, Lynch is 26 points from 17 games or 1.53 points per game and Bazunu, 21 points from 29 games is 0.72 points per game. If we had dropped Bazunu after 20 or 25 games we would still be in L1 . I think MCFC owe us a very big favour, and BBM made a very big big mistake.

As much as anything, it was the change in tactics which accompanied the dropping of Bazunu which increased our points haul. The emphasis was shifted from playing the ball out from our penalty area with short passes (which Bazunu was thought to be able to do) to pushing further upfield with longer kicks out

But BBM made a very big mistake in persisting with the former tactic for far too long. Plus, it was obvious Bazunu's mindset wouldn't be ready for a return to mundane L1 action after the international break where the Ireland team bombed during his debut. The defeat at Portsmouth following his lack of concentration was just another avoidable nail in the coffin

It's impossible to say, as how many saves/potential goals did Lynch have to make/prevent that Bazunu would/wouldn't?

Keith Welch was in a team that nearly went down to the Vauxhall Conference, but he was significantly better than most before or after him.

Josh Lillis won promotion, but some people didn't rate him.

Point is, there's more to it than mere facts and figures.

I would love to have Andy Cannon back at the Dale, but I cannot see it, myself.

James Wilson who was released by Salford, 9 goals in 29 appearances this season, may be an option, in that is around 24.

However I suspect will not be proactive in signing players early and bedding them into the squad, but be taking whats been left by others.

Really shocked by that. Thought the fans really rated him. Also had 43 appearances this season. Can only think he's got some better offers lined up.

Suppose he could have said I won’t be signing regardless of any offer so he may as well be released.

Think a lot of players will be taking major pay cuts this season. Judge and chambers won’t be getting 10k a week or anywhere near, which they were on at Ipswich!

Its the mere facts and figures that relegated us. And many, besides me, were pointing out that Bazunu wasn't experienced enough to play behind our defence. In his age group, he might be outstanding, behind a competent defence he might have been more than good enough, but behind our ever-changing defence and ever-changing formation he was left too exposed and any keeper would have been. Its the fine margins that can have huge effects and the team garnered more points with Lynch in goal than with Bazunu, yes the arrival of Osho helped and maybe Lynch got the benefit. I don't blame Bazunu, I blame BBM who probably should have rested him earlier, I just hope the Rochdale experience has made him stronger and not shattered his confidence.

That's what I was getting at. 👍

If he's already got a better gig lined up and told them he wouldn't be signing a new contract. Bit strange otherwise can't imagine he was one there biggest earners.

Unless he's expressed a desire to return north, I'd be very surprised if he had a "better gig" lined up at the level he's capable of playing.

He might not be one of their biggest earners (even though none of us know what players earn), but he will be a big earner compared to what other clubs may pay in comparison to Pompey.

Maybe it's just simply that the Cowleys don't see him as part of their plans.

I completely agree with you re Bazunu, but there was a lot more to why we got relegated than who was between the sticks, in my opinion.

I'd rather have someone new of our own next season, but whether that will happen is another matter.

Where have I mentioned that? You're completely missing the point.

We both signed loan goalkeepers from the Premier League who had no previous league experience and who were both teenagers. Cheltenham's worked out as hoped, ours didn't.

I'm not sure why you've tried to take it in a different direction.

Not sure what point it is im missing? On comparing the two keepers I was just trying to open up a discussion about which was the bigger gamble as far as signing for their respective loanee clubs. I didn't say you mentioned anything about Rochdale signing the other chap. But had it been on the cards surely it would be relevant to some extent. I wasn't trying to cause any problems

At no point was I insinuating anything was on the cards.

I was pointing out that two clubs in two different divisions had both signed teenage keepers on loan from the Premier League. (There might even be others)

One of them had a successful season ending in promotion; the other one didn't.

That is all!

Didn't mean to insinuate that you had insinuated anything.
I'd be interested to know thoughts on why some loan signings work and some don't. What lessons are there to be learned. Is it better to get players from clubs who are lower down, but the player is higher up the pecking order at their parent club. Than a player who is way off a first team spot but plays for a team in the top echelons.

He managed to pick up on the initial lack of confidence shown by McGahey and turn it into a crusade against him, despite Dale having less talented defenders before and since with not a peep from him. And this, despite our making - what was it, £150k ? in the Jan 2019 firesale on him due to his qualities

He's easily good enough for L2, with more experience now providing there's no issues with fitness

McGahey started dreadfully, improved slightly & only due to the financial mismanagement of Scunthorpe we managed to get some money for him.

The fact he’s barely featured in a wretched League Two team tells you all you need to know.

I sincerely hope he’s not on any sort of recruitment list at Spotland.

Nice to know you’re thinking about me.

Comedy misjudgement of new players is always memorable

His recent record tells us nothing, as Henderson's or COG's travails before joining Dale wouldn't have done

McGahey was criminally overrated because he had a bit of pace about him, which still didn’t get him out of many notable situations.

He was positionally woeful & weak in the air.

Still don’t understand your love in with him.

He was positionally woeful & weak in the air.

Still don’t understand your love in with him.

I don’t think anyone’s got a love-in with him. I think most people see him for what he is - a solid lower league defender. He was never Dawson or Jack O’Connell standard, but he did a good job for us in a poor side in the league above. As a player who knows the club and won’t cost the earth, we could do much worse.

A Pompey fan on Twitter labelled him a ‘loose cannon,’ and that seems to have been the general consensus - a good player but far too erratic and made a lot of mistakes.

Do we know he won't cost the earth? He was offered a new deal at Scunthorpe and turned it down. Maybe his wage demands are higher than we can manage?

If he has hardly featured as 1907 has said. Perhaps he doesn't want to spend another season warming the bench.

Dalian has a love in with him and also the fact I thought he was garbage when he was with us.

I also don’t think he’s a solid lower league centre half. He’s more in the average to poor category for me. If we had the option to sign an experienced centre half like character like Wheater I’d rather we did that.

Now I’m not saying he’s in Michael Simpkins league, he’s not awful. He’s just not as good as some people like to remember.

I’d be delighted if we were to sign players of the quality of McGahey ahead of next season.
