The Poppy 12:58 - Nov 2 with 11310 views | union_jack | FIFA are banning the home nations from displaying the poppy on international shirts. Outrageous? Or preventing a floodgate opening for other countries to have their political say on their shirts?

The Poppy on 20:03 - Nov 2 by Lohengrin | 'Ooooh! Those nasty proles are threatening us.' There are three things every year that mark the run-up to Armistice Day. The clocks go back, the old boys set up the RBL stall in the market and the 'luvvies' start their piglet squealing! [Post edited 2 Nov 2016 20:04]

You're forgetting the moral outrage that accompanies the first half way famous person who refuses or forgets to wear a poppy on TV or in some public event.

I couldn't care less, to be honest.

The Poppy on 20:13 - Nov 2 with 1855 views | Clinton | I always buy and wear a poppy, but this so called controversy about the football match is just irrelevant. Far better the players give a days salary each to the British legion. Bollocks to the Sun who are being a horses arse about it.

It's the same manufactured outrage bollocks you get every year at this time in some form. For proof, look no further than the prime minister's pathetic faux outraged soundbite at the despatch box this afternoon.

Biggest lol in that picture is the fact that at one point Fede was good enough to play for the Argentinian national team. I think FIFA took action against them after that though didn't they? Or was it another time?

The Poppy on 13:24 - Nov 2 by sherpajacob | If England and Scotland both want to wear poppies they should be allowed. For us, bearing in mind we are playing Serbia, we should be allowed if the Serbs agree. Serbia suffered more than any other single country during the great war, only right we should ask their opinion. |
Having listened to FIFA's preposterous new Secretary General, Fatma Samoura, on the wireless this morning prefacing every other sentence with "as an African, Moslem woman" I can't imagine the Welsh FA having the slightest issue reaching agreement with Serbia. She intends "eradicating all political and religious symbolism" from football. Putting aside any arguments on that score I wonder if somebody from Senegal realises how many European nations have the cross as part of their national crest? A comedy appointment from an organisation long since bereft of credibility.

The desire for the world to control specific traditions and then enforce their will on the very same people must never happen.

The Poppy on 19:40 - Nov 3 with 1439 views | exiledclaseboy | I've been in London today. If I'd given a pound to every serviceman or woman who was selling poppies I could genuinely have spent about £50. Groups of two or three on the tube station entrances and strategically placed inside the station as well as at Paddington. Each waving a tin. Absolutely ridiculous overkill.
