Will labour ever get back into power? 10:52 - Dec 23 with 19385 views | mrrockin | I've been following the recent labour news with amusement and a bit of sadness (yes genuinely) - it's painfully obvious that the tories are going to win an increased majority possibly even a landslide in 2020. By this point the left of labour will have a stranglehold over labour and this will mean there is no hope for the right of labour which closely mirrors the early 80's with the breakaway of the SDP. Personally I believe the likes of Denis Healey made a mistake and the moderates should have left on mass to join the SDP and leave the socialists to keep the red flag flying high. Maybe as CB has long argued it is time for a voting change. I was very skeptical about voting change but I personally thought the coalition largely did a superb job and I was disappointed it didn't continue in many ways. I largely support this Gov but I'm more in the centre so I'd prefer the right wingers to be more restrained which the coalition provided. My point is that under the present system labour will never recover and it might be time for a realignment to take place in British politics. [Post edited 23 Dec 2015 10:53]

Will labour ever get back into power? on 18:15 - Dec 24 by mrrockin | Absolutely correct, it's a long term issue in relation to education. The Blair mantra of 50% going to University was ridiculous we should have been ploughing money into building up our skills base which actually is improving again thanks to the coalition with millions of apprenticeships now. We do need to re-balance, we do need to focus more on the long-term but we're not a basket case as many would like to paint it. We need subtle changes in policy and better focus in procurement. The New labour years were wasted years, but as usual people return to type and blame the tories. |
They have actually drafted me into education.. ME!.. I was happy with a job in Tesco.. but because youngsters are dull c*nts.. i'll have to read pages and pages of sh*t for years on end.. to spout it out to the on coming youngsters. Desperate times when they draft in a bottom class secondary school reject.. with no GCSEs to his name

As this thread exemplifies we just love to moan in this Country. I think some will only believe a proper job is bashing metal together, that's the reality. |
There are millions and millions classed as being in poverty in this country and most of them are in work, 'in work poverty' because of low pay and zero hour contracts.

The top 1% pay 30% of all tax revenue into the system, when we taxed the rich till the pips squeak it was around 17%. Just a thought.

The top 1% earn about 50% of the total taxable income, so only paying about 30% when they earn about 50% could be said to be a good deal. Just a thought.

Therefore please took off all these misusing this poverty word. If this generation is, then quite what our ancestors went through beggars belief.

Our politicians don't have any jurisdiction over Rwanda. That will be grinning warlords waving charity money around. Best stick to the thread subject as its only poverty relative to the wealth gap in the UK and the political parties that control that gap that it concerns. [Post edited 29 Dec 2015 11:20]

If I take your figures are right then I'm assuming you've taken into account Corporation Tax - do you seriously advocate dramatically increasing this? Is that the Plaid vision for Wales? Do you believe a high tax, high welfare economy is feasible for an independent Wales? [Post edited 29 Dec 2015 12:11]

I heard at the last GE that Plaid were looking to introduce zero business rates for over 70,000 Welsh companies and that another 83,000 would be on reduced rates. Personnel taxation and corporation tax are two different things, tax people a fair whack that can afford to pay and lightly tax small companies to encourage them to set up and employ people and hopefully make a profit.

What is a fair whack in your eyes? BTW that plaid policy would break EU law, I can see that straight away. Dear me.

Yes I'm grateful for what I've got and there's nothing wrong with that. I've got a nice warm safe house and I have a nice comfortable life in good health and happiness. I go skiing every year and i have cash on the hip if I want to treat myself. Meanwhile, 50% of all humans that have ever lived have died horrific, painful deaths from malaria. Things can always be improved but it's certainly not a Tory thing to be grateful for what you have because life and health is always bigger than petty politics.

Increasing business rate relief for small businesses would not be breaking EU law ? 50p in the pound for those earning over 150k sounds reasonable.
