I think Phil Sumbler deserves a full public apology 21:22 - Feb 20 with 10110 viewsDarran

After listening first hand tonight of the work that's gone on in the last six months from the Trust Chairman I think Phil Sumbler deserves a full public apology for the abuse he's been receiving in some quarters.

And some people want this fella gone.

Making up lies I'm talking about Andrew and its a shame 'some' people will actually believe what he types.
As you've no doubt read what he's said since the event here it is below for everyone to see and it is complete and utter nonsense and did not happen.

"I've heard you got stick for asking certain questions and I'm pissed off and gutted you did. Also this shows very bad form that questions of a certain nature are discouraged and members get rounded on. I wish to God I'd gone now and stood next to you."

The poster concerned no longer uses this board, so in the interests of trying to make this a more civil place to be shall we consider dropping the matter and refraining from stirring the pot?

Or you could use the forum he's now on to make the same points and leave the rest of us in peace.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Until you start banning posters who do nothing other than try to point score, we will continue to lose posters such as Llangy. They are easy to spot, they post no opinion, they just diving in trying to get one up on other posters. Never football opinions posted. Get rid.

In fairness to the good doctor his aim is go do just that

I believe he has started that work whilst I was enjoying my day yesterday of golf (33 points was a good return) a win over Manchester United and my mothers 80th birthday party in the evening

Dr will be ruthless in what he does - will upset a few along the way

I'm sure he is the right man for the job, full faith in him. As long as he's fair and get's shot of the "favourites" who offer zero to the board as well, this place will be a much better place for it.

Happy Birthday to your mam for yesterday, hope you treated her.

To be fair, if everyone learned a modicum of self-control there'd be no need for bannings, or at least there'd only need to be a very few. Trolls can't prosper if no one replied to them.

We both know that is never going to happen, too many forum ego's on show. There's too many on here that are only interested in sniping around the board, trying to get one over on posters, irrespective of what is being posted.

True that. I suppose the balance between challenging complete nonsense (and some of it borderline libelous complete nonsense) and forum harmony is a difficult one to strike for some.

I have absolutely no interest in playing favourites.

One thing I was going to suggest however is merging the football/non-football forums and having a separate "anything goes" board where all those who are mostly interested in tedious backbiting and stirring can do so to their hearts content and leave the other board to the adults.

The only thing i can see wrong with that is that you'll be making a rod for your own back with "anything goes" board. There'll be all racism, homophobia, threats etc being made on the premise that anything goes. Then you'll get the "rivalries" between posters on that board making it's way over to here. Sounds like more trouble than the worth of it.

Certainly anything illegal will go, and bringing it onto the other board would result in swift deletion and a ban.

Worth a try though IMO.

I thought this too. A no tears no moaning section to let people take their silly personal stuff into. I've seen it somewhere else though (not a football board) and for the same reasons, but in the end it had to be moderated very heavily and wasn't worth the candle. As you say though, possibly worth a spin. Could simply ban any obvious false allegations against named individuals, eg calling Gomis a footballer (that's a joke, for anyone in doubt), but it is, as Oyston has proved, a minefield now.

Yep, I've banned myself at times, and written replies that a hovering finger has realised that it's better to delete.

But the last few months have been bitter, and at times downright cruel to a handful of posters. Those on the receiving end of these horrendous posts will have found it hard to hold their anger in check.

Please let it happen that those posters remain where they have gone, and stay on the naughty step keeping their bile amongst themselves.

I must admit I disagree with this viewpoint. It's perfectly valid to express a view and not seek election. It's the bit where he repeatedly dismissed anything that didn't suit his preconceptions that I didn't get.

Anyway, sounds like last night was a roaring success and disappointed to have missed it. As a Trust, I think it's a fair criticism that comms hasn't been up to the mark, but to a significant degree that's down to the circumstances of such a deal and also not seeking to needlessly cause issues where they don't need to exist. The fact there was such openness last night tells its own story.

Also, good to see the excellent work of Dai and Jacko recognised. Unlike some faceless, unverified internet personas, these are top class pros in their field and the Trust is lucky to be able to call on them. They've played a blinder, as has the likes of Phil last night.

It's one thing criticising and making a statement regards the way things are being run and offering solutions. It's another thing to threaten, chastise, bully and ridicule and then when offered an opportunity to appear in the flesh and put your point forwards they don't appear.

They have been shown up for what they are, and we know what they are.
