I agree with you, i'm only a voter just for you to know, Plaid took a big step in appointing the lovely Leanne as leader as she is a Socialist to the core, an English speak [Welsh learner] and a female and from the South Wales valleys.
There are only right wing parties in England [ones of any consequence anyway], Labour being almost a Fascist party these days their politics are so right wing, there is a huge gap on the left in English politics that is not filled, Plaids slightly left of centre politics would fill that gap nicely, their policies are very middle of the road, its just that the Lib-Dems, Tories and NuLabour are so far out on the right that you need a good pair of binoculars to see them, they try to portray themselves as middle of the road but the reality is they are extreme right wing, with the likes of Plaid and the SNP middle of the road, have you seen the Political Compass site, the Yellow, Red and Blue Tories are almost off the scale extremists on the charts, its frightening to see where Labour was under Foot [their last Socialist manifesto] 30 odd years ago and where they are now, shocking absolutely shocking, the Tories are true to their right wing beliefs but the two main Westminster parties have sold their souls to compete with the greed offered to people by the Tories under Thatcher, offering tax cuts [a lot for the rich and a tickle for the working class] and the English fell for it, our housing stock was sold off, our nationalised companies sold off, benefits and services cut all for a little tickle of a tax cut, thick thick selfish me me me voters.
Now the country is ruined, the Welsh and Scots don't want it and will look to bail out, not this time but the next time of asking and the union will break up, survival of the fittest policies might well suit those in the East of Blighty but the rest of Blighty prefer a more caring sharing society.
I can't see a way out of it as regards the union long term, one lot want different things to the other lot, its historical as well, son and heir versus sharing wealth, fighting for monetary gain and wealth versus fighting for ones culture and family, its hard to see a compromise unless the ones with the whip hand now go down a more federal route offering the Celtic countries more and more of the way they want things run. Their policies are middle of the road.
The question of independence for many years now for Plaid has been baby steps, which would be my way as it turns out as well, a little bit of power here, a little bit of power there, if things work, a little bit more power, if it doesn't work no harm done, no break from the UK and only a break from the UK if lots of things are in position and working, which I think would be decades away but its coming the course we are on its coming.
On the theme of baby steps the best result in Scotland for Wales I would say is a 'No' vote with 'Yes' getting about a third of the vote, [40% would be unbelievable - they won't get that much will they ?], as the UK Government will be shaken to the core and will offering this that and the other to the Scots and will probably have to offer similar deals to Wales.
The demographics are in the Patriots favour, young people have grown up with the internet, so schools only teaching 1066 and all that and little about people from Welsh history like Owain Glyndwr, Hywel Dda, Gruffydd ap Llywelyn and Gwenllian etc. | |

Check out the political compass site, I never noticed till it was pointed out by another poster on another site, on one of the graphs the current Labour party is plotted very close policy wise to where Fascist party politics are, not referring to their stance on immigration or foreign policy or their attitude to small groups but their general right wing policies.
This is where modern Britain is on the political scale, Labour, Lib-Dems and the Tories are all bunched together out on the right, you will be lucky to get a fag paper between their policies they are so similar. [Post edited 12 Sep 2014 12:22]

You better check their current policies out then, the days of the Labour party being a socialist party died decades ago [30 odd years ago], they don't support mass nationalisation of industries that are vital to the country anymore, they don't support large tax hikes on companies and people that can afford to pay to spread the wealth out more to achieve a more balanced society, modern Labour are traitors to their founding fathers as well as too the working class and the poorer in society.

Nothing wrong with been Anglised, that is your culture, I recognise you for what you are, but you need to recognise others for being Welsh or Cornish or Scottish or Manx or Irish and there is nothing wrong with people from those areas seeing themselves as Welsh or Scottish either.
That is why I like the idea of a federal state, you can be as Anglised as you like and I can be as Welsh as I like. | |
