Morfa Distributor Road - Stadium Expansion? 11:50 - May 13 with 12825 viewstomdickharry

Minister Edwina Hart has announced a £1.5M grant to Swansea City Council in respect of the Morfa Distributor Road (Hafod By Pass) could this be the key to the way forward with the proposed Stadium Expansion which as we all should know from recent Trust minutes is some way away yet.

There was even talk of a tram system linking Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea Valley and Llanelli but we will never have that now with the East having a Metro system.
There is no direct link on public transport to the Liberty from Pontardawe, which could have a park and ride for match days.
After all they train station everywhere in the East to travel into Cardiff

Work on the new £4.5M road linking the Liberty and Swansea City centre is expected to start this summer. The road will run from New Cut Road running parallel to the River Tawe until it reaches the Landore Park and Ride. This was in the Western Mail this morning together with a quote from a Council spokesman. Good news.

I too find Curleigh's assertion erroneous . Cardiff isn't massively bigger than Swansea, it's about 1.25 to 1.5 times bigger that's all. Their big advantage transport wise is that it's boringly flat with no hills, therefore much easier to navigate via road and rail.

I assume he's talking about the shopping centre, which isn't the same thing at all, especially for those of us who find shopping utterly tedious! Geographically, Swansea's city centre has always been far too spread out which is something that has started to be adjusted with the amount of housing and flats sprouting up.

I understand that the money for alteration, will only go hand in hand with the stadium expansion. Well that's it the end of that.

Went passed the footprint of where the Hafod Bypass will be on the train yesterday and the construction is in full swing. There is a new pedestrian crossing over the new road between The New Cut Road and Landore.

It will start by the new student apartments on the new cut road and run alongside the railway line on the Tawe side passed the Landore club and join onto the big roundabout by The Morfa Park.

Looks like they're saving building an extra bridge as I'm sure I'd seen earlier plans that brought the road out at the island south of the park and ride and the Tawe

Edit

Does that mean that it runs along Morfa Rd. So widening and then extending it?

the housing is going on the site of bernard hasties at the top of morfa road and is by PMG paul guy who built the lego stadium/leckwith retail park.

the work alongside the trainline as you arrive into swansea station is the new rail depot to maintain the new fleet of electric trains with new sidings to access it and not the hafod bypass.

Well the construction work follows the exact footprint of where the bypass is! The construction of the depot is not scheduled to start until 2015! Yes It's the bernard hasties site but there's going to be no access feeder road is there? If you think the road their building is not part of the Morfa distribution road then you are very disillusioned!

Given the growth of online retailing a shopping centre is no longer the attraction it might have been in the past. Good piece in the Grauniad the other day about the number of shopping malls across the US that have died a death over the last 5-10 years.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

the guys working there in orange suits said their building the new rail depot.

so the bypass could be going straight form the end of morfa road through the bernard hastie site which the new housing development would have direct access onto.

If Google Maps is correct then it does extend Morfa Rd

Zoom in and it shows the projected route

Yes, I would think so. Judging by the research I have done.

The 1st phase is to a) feed the depot construction site and eventually give access to it's workers and b) to give access to the housing site.

The 2nd phase will link up to the roundabout by the ground and the housing site all the way through to the New Cut Road.
