Swansea City can confirm Andy Goldie will be leaving his position as academy manager.
Goldie will vacate his post on July 2, and Ryan Davies will take on the role of academy manager until further notice.
The club would like to thank Andy for his work during his time at the club and wish him well for the future. |

Swansea City can confirm the departures of four members of the club’s coaching staff.
Assistant head coach Matt Gill, goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton, first-team performance analyst Ben Parker and head of rehabilitation Rhys Owen have all left the club to join Southampton.
Gill, Thornton and Parker joined the club following Russell Martin’s appointment as head coach in July 2021, while Owen was added to the Swansea staff in the summer of 2022.
Swansea City would like to place on record its thanks for their hard work during their time in SA1, and wish them well in their future careers. |

New Swansea City sporting director Paul Watson has stressed the importance of the club being aligned at all levels in order to build a platform for a successful future.
Watson has taken on the position with the Swans following a successful five-year stint in the same position with Luton Town, during which time the Hatters climbed from League Two all the way to the heights of the Premier League.
While the remit of Watson’s job has considerable width, he acknowledges his first priority will be player recruitment as he looks to work effectively with ownership and new head coach Michael Duff in order to help the Swans strengthen their squad ahead of the 2023-24 Championship campaign.
Following in the wake of a January window where the club did not make any additions to the senior squad, Watson says discussions between ownership, senior management and football management have led to an agreement of an amended structure and system which he hopes will ensure there will be no repeat moving forward.
“We have had a number of discussions and we have agreed on a clear vision of where we want to be. The change of manager will help in some ways because they are fully aligned to how I see it, and how Josh (Marsh) and ownership are approaching things,” he said.
“Recruitment is going to be key, and we are all aligned and in agreement from the discussions we have had about moving forward.
“There is a really talented group of footballers here, and we need to look at that first. No matter who the manager is, reinforcements are going to be required in certain areas.
“Ultimately we want to help this squad with a bit more physicality and robustness. There will be a tweak to the way we play, but we want to help the team push up that league.

“As I say, first and foremost we have a clear plan. I don’t think anyone at this football club — from ownership to players and management — wanted to be in that position in January.
“Ultimately, I was not here at that time, and I cannot really comment any further on that, but I certainly do not expect us to be in that place moving forward.
“January is a tough window to recruit in, but if we end up not signing anyone in the next January window, that will be because we have agreed that as a club and we will communicate that clearly.
“But going forward we have put plans and a framework in place to help ensure we are not in that place again, and that was a key point before I came in.”
Watson will work alongside head of football operations Josh Marsh, and believes the pair are already striking up a productive working relationship.
“Josh has got real good knowledge, I have enjoyed getting to know him and looking at the work he has done previous to my arrival,” added Watson.
“I think he has put in place a really good foundation that we want to evolve, we want to push forward from.
“We are working in tandem, he has helped me find my feet and we have worked well together, and long may that continue when it comes to pushing forward because recruitment is the first big challenge we are going to face.

“We have a wonderful academy and catchment area here. First of all, do we want to produce our own players? Of course we do, because of the work that goes on in that academy.
“But, do we need players who have played a lot and who are at their peak age, where they can come in and impact the team? Yes.
“So, I think it will be about that blend that can help us push things forward.”
Watson has been impressed by the standard of staff and facilities he has already encountered at the club’s various sites.
And he hopes he can utilise the experience he has gained working as an agent, and then in senior roles at Hartlepool and Luton, to help the Swans push forward.
“It’s taken a bit of time, but I am excited to get down to work with the project here,” he said.
“I really enjoyed my five years at Luton with a good staff and foundation, but I felt this was the best move for my career after speaking to the ownership group and hearing their plans for the future from this point.
“I hope I can come in and have an influence, and get the club into a better place in the next few years.

“The facilities here are of Premier League standard, and so are the staff. I have had a warm welcome, it has been a whistlestop tour, but you can see there is a lot of talent here and if we can mould a team that matches the level of facilities then we won’t be doing too bad.
“I have accumulated a lot of knowledge over the last five years, and I am hopeful of bringing that here and helping us have a clear plan of how we want to recruit, how we want to play and bring through our own players.
“It’s about having an aligned approach, because that provides the best platform for success on and off the field.”

Swansea City can confirm the appointment of Paul Watson as the club’s new sporting director.
Watson arrives in SA1 following a successful five-year spell at Luton Town, where he played a key role in player recruitment as the Bedfordshire club reached the Premier League.
He assumes responsibility for all football operations at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Watson will work closely with head coach Michael Duff and chairman Andy Coleman, together with head of football operations Josh Marsh, and will have particular focus on player recruitment.
He will have oversight of all football departments, including academy, sports science, medical and analysis, while he will also join the club’s senior management team.
“In any business, it is rare to find someone who is universally praised for their character and capabilities. Paul is one of those few people,” said Swansea City chairman Andy Coleman.
“He is an incredibly talented individual with tremendous football knowledge, and Swansea City needs football people making key football decisions.
“Paul’s arrival immediately strengthens the club, and I look forward to working with him and providing him with the resources to make a positive impact at Swansea City.”
After joining Luton in 2018 as general operations manager, he went on to be promoted to chief operating officer midway through the 2021-22 season.
During his time at Kenilworth Road, Watson proved a key figure behind the scenes as the Hatters climbed the Football League, culminating in their promotion to the Premier League back in May.

Swansea City can confirm head coach Russell Martin has left the club to join Southampton.
Martin had a little over 12 months remaining on the three-year deal he signed upon arriving at the Swansea.com Stadium in August 2021.
The club also stands firm in our belief that we are owed full compensation for Russell, and we will continue working diligently and strategically to protect the best interests of the club.
Swansea City would like to place on record its thanks to Russell for his work during his time in SA1.
The club will update supporters regarding a new first-team coaching staff in due course. |

Swedish u23 left winger/striker at Brighton linked to a loan to us by Brighton Argus.
Gyokeres hit seven goals and provided four assists in 26 league appearances at St. Pauli last season in a loan in bundersleague division 2.
The Argus understands Gyokeres is one of the options Swansea are considering to fill the void left by Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, who was on loan at the club last season.
Bundesliga 2 side St Pauli are also interested in bringing the Swedish international back to the club, after he impressed when on loan last season. [Post edited 9 Sep 2020 15:29]

No player or coach is sh!t or garbage.
Players have bad games and coaches make poor decisions but there is no need for personal abuse. We all have an opinion but there are ways to express it.
I don’t think Cooper is the man for the job. Not because he is sh!t garbage etc. But because I think he has started at a league too high too soon. He is making mistakes And this league is unforgiving. Brendan made mistakes at this level and learned from them before he came here. Roberto made his mistakes and learned from them a division lower. Monk and Clement made them in the hardest league of all.
Don’t blame him, or monk or Clement for giving it a go but the championship or premier division isn’t a place to learn unless you have a lot of money behind you to pay for your mistakes.
Yes we are disappointed and frustrated that the team seems less than the sum of the players abilities. A good start has fizzled out into games where performances are poor and individual players seem to be regressing not progressing.
However that is no excuse for the personal abuse of players or coaching staff. I’m no angel but social media has turned so many of us into invisible bullies and abusers. It is one thing to provide criticism another to hurl abuse. That line appears to have been crossed on social media relating to the Swans.
Caroline Flack has been the subject of much media commentary and has sadly taken her life. I’m sure none of us would want the abuse being hurled at our players and management to end up in similar fashion.
Let’s all take a step back. |
