Any news on 16:24 - Feb 19 with 734 views | kirbys | It was a sad incident that occured following a 50/50 challenge. I was afraid it may affect JK as he was playing a blinder up to this point - but the reaction of Stephen Purches's colleagues and even the Bournemouth fans was brilliant, in recognition of the no harm intention - credit to them for this as there was no sign of recrimination afterwards. I am sure this helped JK get on with it and that's just what he did. As always there were a few idiots who chose not to recognise the awful truth of the injury and they should hang their heads in shame. Nevertheless, the player was given a great ovation right to the main stand in keeping with the usual sentiments at Spotland. One final point, not everyone might agree but I thought the ref was decent yesterday and allowed the match to flow. Some might have blown up after this challenge but he was strong in his decision making. He did allow a lot of shirt pulling but this seems to go unpunished these days. Most important, lets hope the lads operation today is a complete success and he makes a swift and complete recovery.

Any news on 09:21 - Feb 19 by SuddenLad | If the lad was taken to Oldham Royal, he's probably still on a trolley in a corridor somewhere. |
Arf! So true, that happened to me in 1977. 4 hrs in the corridor waiting for a bed to come free. PS, Good on our consultant/fan for his work. Wish he had been working back then. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Any news on 13:54 - Feb 19 by number30 | With the consultant being a die hard Rochdale fan he also wanted to show Rochdale in a good light, and I think it shows the club in a positive light that rather than just send him to A&E (I know of several Latics players that have ended up in the waiting room!!!) that the club (and fans) will try and make the best out of the the unfortunate situation for the player. |
Yeah that is a very good point and a nice touch.

Any news on 14:00 - Feb 19 by TVOS1907 | 442 is right - the player didn't break any laws and there's not a lot the referee could do without being slated by the assessor. There is nothing in the laws that he could apply - he can't make up a new law for that sort of incident nor use his discretion, as his discretion would still need some aspect of the laws behind it. If the player ran to goal unchallenged and scored, again, the referee has no jurisdiction to disallow the goal. It would come down to the conscience of the player and his manager. Interestingly, though, FIFA are apparently considering this sort of incident for a law change. They are proposing that if an uncontested free-kick is kicked into the goal, a goal kick (or corner at the other end) will be awarded to avoid the farce of the opposition letting in an equaliser on purpose. |
the ref appeared to be non too impressed with the action of the Bournemouth player, and seemed to let him know exactly how he felt. Didn't we concede one year at Shrewsbury following something similar? [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

Yes, wasn't it something to do with Nigel Jemson?
| When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf? |
