If what now seems inevitable does happen despite the Assistant Manager’s attempt to gaslight us today, then we badly need a new Championship standard right back by Monday night.

Yeah, right! Hope stupid do they think we really are?

But why do it. What a stupid unnecessary comment to make unless true. There is always spin but that comment will backfire on the club in a big way if Dunne goes.

Yeah he could’ve been vague and just said he was unavailable for selection.
If today had been a home game I assume players with minor injuries would be at the game in the stands somewhere but not sure the protocol at away games.

It’s pretty obvious the gaslighting is coming from above and Calm is just following orders. It’s not as if the CEO doesn’t have previous here.

I thought he was a bit of a clunky at RB myself. Excellent once he moved to the middle, after Cook went off. Which coincided with our best spell of the game.

Let’s see how this plays out over the next few days.

Just another footballer kissing the badge, I'm afraid. Him and Jack Robinson aren't that dissimilar.

Totally unfair. Jimmy has never acted as if he's too good for us or so much better than his team mates.

He's entitled to move on. He's not even like Manning and BOS who pretty much downed tools in their last season.

He's also not the first player to leave and I'm sure we'll find a way to win without him.

Agreed, He looked a little short on confidence in the first half and don't think it was a coincidence that Smythe had a quiet game because he wasn't being supported/fed.
Cook looked quite rusty.... I'm sure he will be back to his reliable self soon, but it wasn't his best game for us.
personally I'd also drop Chair for saito on Tuesday - he scared the life out of millwall when he came on...

Says how much he loves it here then ups sticks as soon as he gets another offer. As Clive said, he'll be back at this level (assuming they go up) before long.

But that’s the problem. If he has to move to the middle it means we bring on the terminally useless Ashby and that’s why we need a competent new right back.

If true so unbelievably f**king annoying.

Wtf decision is this.

How to screw up a football club

Can't be ars*d to watch anymore today either

Sometimes I hate QPR

T*SSP*TS

To be fair they would get no end of crap if they let him go for free in the summer. If JD doesn’t want to extend his contract they’d be foolish to not take cash now.

It amazes me sometimes how when a player lets his contract run down to get a lucrative free transfer it’s the club’s fault, when a player isn’t picked because his contract is running out it’s the club’s fault and when we sell a player before their contract runs out it’s also the club’s fault.

It’s at least plausible that QPR have been trying to get him to sign a new contract on improved terms for months and JD himself is the one forcing this situation.

Which is what lots of footballers do. Doesn't mean he's anything like the odious Robinson. It also doesn't mean that he's lying when he says he loves it here. But which player would pass up a very real chance of winning promotion.

I think he'll be back in the Championship soon. Doesn't mean he shouldn't enjoy a promotion/the chance to play at a higher level.

Jesus, 17 pages about a player leaving. He isn't even very good, yet some on here are behaving like we are selling Messi.

Grab the money and run.

Maybe you're right mate and I'm letting emotions get in the way.

I don't know, still not sure I see it that way. The fact he only has 6 months left on his contract doesn't suggest it's a classic case of buying cheap and selling for a large profit. It's more a case of a situation that's come about where we just had to go for it due to a contract being run down. Nothing of a model about it at all.

And yes, £2m is a lot of money in the real world, but it's not major by any means. I'm sure the plan wasn't "let's get this promising young Irish defender in, keep him til 27 and then flog him in the form of his life when he is integral to the team, for 2m quid".

I met Jacob Reeves the other day, centre back who Hull sold for 15m. That is more like it.

And a jolly nice chap he was too.
[Post edited 1 Feb 18:19]

As a general rule, a club like ours has to find a delicate balance between developing players in order to generate a profit and staying competitive on the pitch. Hence, it can be difficult to gauge exactly when to sell a player. However, what you and some others appear to be missing is that the player himself does have a choice in all of this. If he chooses to run down his contract, then there is very little that the club can do other than continue to try and convince him to renew or sell for whatever they can get.

If Jimmy stays, wonderful, but if does go for £2m, then that's reasonable business for a player with less than 6 months remaining on his current contract.

Making vague comparisons with other players is pretty meaningless as transfer fees depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to age, experience, talent, position, level of interest from other clubs, and duration of contract remaining.

If you must make comparisons then at least get it straight. The person who you allegedly "met the other day" may well be a "jolly nice chap" but the centre-back who left Hull last summer to join Ipswich is Jacob GREAVES not Reeves.

Understandable that both he and the team improved once Ronnie moved to CB. CB is his natural position and he's able to beat the press with incisive passing through the lines, something Fox doesn't have in his locker.

...and another reason we should all cherish Chair. Absolutely he could get more money elsewhere, but when HE says he loves us, he stays. THAT is the proof, not just saying it in the press and then leaving because we did not offer enough...

Equally fair to assume the club aka Nourry spunked his budget on 2 below average signings for approximately 4 million and couldn't pay Jimmy good money ....the truth is we the mere paying public will never know.

He is good though.

He’s been our main attacking threat in a run of games that put us top of the form table, scored 3, caused chaos, made every corner and long throw a chance to score. I haven’t seen a player that dominant in the air in the attacking sense since Les (and posh Matt Smith)

You could see in today’s game we weren’t hanging corners to the back post where Dunne would win them every time

He’ll be a loss to this team no doubt, it’s a real shame

Seriously, this is laughable. People have spent 17 pages saying they are angry with the club for not making a comment, then when he doesn't make an appearance today for what could well be a genuine reason and the assistant manager says that, and no one believes him

And you wonder why the club has made no comment, because people will believe what they want to believe regardless. People need to get a grip
