A very sad story.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Might sound harsh but with hindsight we were probably 100% correct to get shot of him.

In some ways we are all culpable, when we don't rate a player we want them out ASAP with no thought of their wellbeing. Clubs should do more to support their cast offs whether they are 10 or 35.

Yep.

All football youth setups should offer a lot more support to players, up to and including further education and even trades training. It takes so much to make it as a pro that most abandon basically everything else school included to try and get there, and when they almost inevitably don't (something like 90% of Academy players never play professionally) there's nothing for them afterwards.

Americans tie education in with sporting development much better than we do. Even the College players who don't go pro almost all come out with degrees at the end of it.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I have told several that I know who have come through our academy. Be prepared and fear the worst because sooner or later you will be thrown out, it could be 12 or anytime up to 35. Some were and some progressed, but it is a fact of football life, so many shattered dreams.

In the academy, yes there is a need to display your footballing attributes, but the Swans do have an extremely decent education dept and support network. Appropriate attitude and behaviour is as much a quality along with self awareness and recognising your own development and take ownership of it.

Liam Cullen clearly wasn’t the best we had, but he displayed so many more qualities to get a full time contract, albeit for the price of a cucumber which he can use at his leisure.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

What more can we do? It’s an industry which is potentially very lucrative but also one of the most ruthless and 99% of people don’t “make it”. The kids should be told from day one that they should make alternative plans, get an education because unless you’re in the top 1% you will inevitably have to pursue another career.

He has a family who can give him support and guidance. He is a grown man that has gone to school learned the 'dos' and 'donts'. He has mates that have grafted and done well. Being released by Swansea is not a huge surprise. Only the very best get through.

It is up to him to put his life on track and support his family. I hope he does this. Everyone cares about the father but not the wife/ partner and kids. Football is easy if you have the talent. Just keep fit and learn your skills. After the easy life he was lost and went looking for other easy money.

I never did this at his age. I went to college and worked for £60 a week building up experience and knowledge and improving my written and spoken skills. Other do trades or start a business. He when come out needs to shun his old street mates and come up with some sort of plan otherwise he will be yet another waster on the street looking for hustles or a career in what the call music these days.

I was cast off one or twice and got no help or sympathy of anyone.

Well said.

Its a very familiar and very sad story.
It’s also predictable.

PFA do many good things for the young players.

The story is not over and he is very young but carries with him a criminal record. It is up to him to make something of himself and not be considered a failure and loser for life.

People he has never met are righting him off on here. It is up to to him. This is still a land of opportunity.
