Democracy did not end in 2014.

Are you scared ?

Comrade Nicola has a new mandate.

No it didn’t end but they made their choice.

No I’m not scared more like bored of it.

I don’t know why you’re bringing her love life into ot but I hope her new mandate goes well and he treats her right.

Fair point, but Scotland is also sitting in some pretty big reserves of oil and gas in the North Sea. The Claire Ridge site alone has between 6bn and 8bn barrels of reserves, which at todays rates will be well over £700bn. I think they could afford to pay their share of the debt over time, it could cause much bigger issues for our exchequer if they walked away.

A new referendum without Westminster’s approval may not be binding, but if Sturgeon held one and there as a decisive majority in favour of independence, it would be very difficulty for Westminster to ignore it. Id have thought the UK government would be in a difficult position, do they refuse to campaign and allow Sturgeon to campaign unopposed, or do they campaign against her and risk being drawn in and having to potentially accept the outcome? I suspect if Sturgeon ran one now, there’d be overwhelming support for independence given Boris popularity in the country.

An unofficial referendum may well have the unionist in Scotland deciding to not take part in the referendum. The gates of hell would open.

As for oil, isn’t the snp in favour of not opening up anymore oil fields ?

Oil reserves are vastly estimated.
Last year UK government oil and gas tax revenues from all UK production was £250 million and corporation tax from all UK gas and oil production was £500 million making a total of oil and gas revenues from all UK gas and oil fields £750 million so the claim that Scotland would be oil rich is nonsense . Even if all the revenue went to Scotland, which is not the case, the total of £750 million a year is insignificant compares to the annual UK taxpayers subsidy of £17.5 billion that Scotland currently receives.
Probably the reason that 55% of Scottish voters in the last referendum voted to remain. No doubt if Nichola held an illegal referendum she would lower the voting age to 16 just to get a few extra voted.

A good chunk of the North Sea oil fields would be in English waters anyway. A lot of it is south of Berwick upon tweed.

Anyway it’s largely irrelevant as it’s likely to run out soon anyway.

Correct and the SNP is opposed to any further exploration and developments of new oil and gas fields in their waters.
Wonder if the Shetlands will ask for an independence referendum so they can become a seperate country and keep all their oil revenues.

Shetland voted 63% against Scottish independence. They clearly want to remain in the UK.

A small point felix. According to your posts the so called Scottish 'subsidy' has gone up £2.5 billion since yesterday.

Do wish she would concentrate on her day job of sorting our Scotland's current problems instead of ignoring them and refusing to accept the result of the recent referendum where Scotland voted 55% to 45% to remain an equal partner in the UK. A result the SNP promised to respect.

The fake patriotic unionism of Brexit England was always going to result in a free Scotland and a united Ireland within 10 years.

The only question now is ….does Cymru follow that path to freedom or become Wales-shire ?

Thats the only question remaining. ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

It is only the UK government that can authorise a legal referendum on Scottish independence. The SNP sgreef to the terms of last refendum and the to respect the result and the wishes of the Scottish people. We can't have a referendum every year until she gets the result she wants. She should concentrate on solving the problems Scotland had which have been devolved to the Scottish Parliament. Once she has sorted these out and Scotland had a booming economy without the need for the huge subsides from the UK taxpayers she will have proved the SNP can rum Scotland successfully.

Such a tired argument, oh we cant just keep voting.
The entire campaign for remaining in the UK was about staying in the EU. It is pretty clear to anyone rational that it now a completely different prospect.

In the 2019 general election the SNP picked up 45% of the vote and the Unionist parties, Labour, Conservative and Liberals picked up 54% of the vote. This almost exactly mirrored the 2014 referendum vote. Seems the Brexit vote in 2016 has no effect on the Scottish voters.

When is the SNP going to respect the wishes and votes of the Scottish people.

Don't want to use the more recent 2021 Scottish election then?
Constituency vote was around 49% to 49%
Regional vote was 50% to 48%
So the Unionist parties have lost voter share between 2019 and 2021.

Correct but you can't assume that everyone who voted for the SNP in local elections want independence, they just prefer the SNP to run the devolved government rather than Labour or Conservative even with the SNP appalling record since being in power, failing education standards, failing NHS, huge rise in drug related deaths, life expectancy, in some parts of Glasgow, is now less than some world countries.
