Danny Ings 09:22 - Aug 21 with 15468 viewssolent_toffee

Close to signing for Everton for 40 million according to Twitter.

File under confirmation, if needed, that Twitter is wrong about everything.

Was it called the Screen Sports Super Cup, or something like that? I’m sure Nick will know.

Then there was the Simod Cup, Full Members Cup (?), various Mickey Mouse one offs against Scottish champions. All a waste of time and no appetite from most fans.

Everton were miffed for years after, that side broke up not long after, although they did win the league again in 87. Kendall left, Steven and Stevens left.

Off the field Everton were their own worst enemy though, big pushers for the Premier League and all its trapping but with the management and oversight of a corner shop - totally unprepared and left behind before it all got going.

I think it was the screen sports super cup

We were drawn with Liverpool & Spurs and played both home and away in front of poor crowds

We lost both away games 2-1 , Danny Wallace scoring at Liverpool in front of 16,408 and Steve Moran at Spurs with a 11,549 crowd

A fairly respectable 10,503 turned up at the Dell for the game against Liverpool for a 1-1 draw with Dave Armstrong scoring from the spot for us.

The last game was meaningless to us and we lost 3-1 with only 4,680 in attendance Danny Wallace scoring.

We seemed to put out fairly strong sides so no excuses

Shit, yes I forgot we actually lost to Spurs that game....

Absolutely no truth I am told he is enjoying his football and thinks we have a real chance of qualifying for Europe next season.

There is absolutely no way that Ings would leave Southampton for Everton. Literally not a chance. Why leave your childhood club and home town to take a step sideways?

One of the most deluded posts ever put on this board. I bet Koeman was also deluded when he went there.

To compare your club to Everton is just laughable.

They're not that bad. We only finished 3 points above them.

Since mid eighties 1985

EVERTON
top 5 finishes = 9
league championships = 2
FA cups = 2
FA cup runners up = 4
Euro Cup Winners = 1
Charity Shields = 5

SOTON
top 5 finishes = 1
FA cup runners up = 1

As I say, deluded to compare the two clubs

Ings isn't planning to play for 35 years: more likely another six at the top level.

Last six seasons:

Top 8 finishes: Saints 3 Everton 3

Cup finals: Saints 1 Everton 0

The bookies odds for next season are the same for both teams. It's very hard to split them.

Now, comparing Little Pompey with Saints really would be laughable. Given the choice between the two, no player would choose Little Pompey. Danny Ings is worth more than your entire team.

Whereas a more realistic comparison might be Wycombe and Portsmouth, yes?

Though as they are in a higher league, it could be argued they wouldn’t wish to be brought down a level by comparisons with your shower....

Yes, Little Pompey would struggle to attract a player that a superior team like Wycombe wanted.

Sorry. Pathetic.

If they heard that Saints were prepared to take one of them to fill a place on our subs bench, the entire Little Pompey squad would be queueing up outside St Mary's begging for the chance.

That's not me having a dig, in terms of years since last trophy won, total trophies, time in top flight, overall average attendances, they are possibly more similar to your club than any other.

"overall average attendances, they are possibly more similar to your club than any other."

And then there's reality. Guess who they are really most similar to?

https://www.nufc.com/html/2018-19html/attendance-all-time.html

Of course for "time in top flight", you are even more deluded:

Saints 44 seasons

Coventry 34 seasons
Little Pompey 33 seasons

Given a choice between Saints, Coventry and Little Pompey, 100% of professional footballers would choose Saints. That is reality: something you don't seem very familiar with in your deluded world.

As this is Little Pompey's ninth consecutive season in the bottom two divisions, any ambitious footballer, who wants to play even one league below Saints, would not choose lower league rubbish Little Pompey.

But in terms of last trophy,

your club = mid seventies
Coventry = late eighties

so, they pizz all over you in these stakes

As the 'stakes' we are referring to in this thread are which club a player would choose to play for now, they are nowhere near Saints and neither, of course, are Little Pompey. You are both so far below Saints in the league that any comparison is truly laughable.

But, thanks for pointing out that Little Pompey are below Coventry in the all-time attendance table and have played fewer seasons in the top flight than they have. I knew you were a small club but you've just confirmed it yourself.

I'm sure lots of young players will be looking at your club's single placement above Everton last season, and decide to head south rather than north due to that category, and your overwhelming superiority..
