Fantastic game, with an incredible end. Bit gutted he saved it TBH because I could happily have sat there for 30 more minutes of that.

Football doesn't have to be this dull, backwards and sideways, Pep dirge. It can still be exhilarating and exciting. I'd watch that match 1,000 times over before I watch Russell Martin football once.

Also - turns out football can still be refereed like that as well. He really contributed to it. Terrific performance.

An added twist to the Turkey Austria game, Merih Demiral is apparently under investigation by Uefa after his goal celebration. I had a read about the party he supports, the Turkish 'Nationalist Movement Party', not exactly a pleasant bunch.

Here's what happened, from the BBC:

"The Al-Ahli defender celebrated his second goal with a 'wolf salute', a gesture associated with the far-right extremist group Grey Wolves that are linked with Turkey's ruling coalition party the National Movement Party.

Demiral said the salute, which is banned in Austria and France, was pre-planned in case he scored.

"I had a goal celebration in mind, which I did," said Demiral.

"I am very proud because I am a Turk, therefore after the goal I felt it deeply and I wanted to do it, and I am very happy about doing it."

Well, clearly the Superbru result should be overturned to, let's say, 2-1 to Austria?

Right. Good. I'll tell UEFA.

Nope, that's gone over the top of me 'ead, Bri. What's the "Superbru result"? Is it something to do with the league you started?

Meanwhile, I read this morning that Phil Foden "feels sorry" for Gareth Southgate. Yeah, I think we all share that sentiment, Phil.

Anyway, there's an absolutely juicy game at 5pm tomorrow: Spain v Germany. I hope it lives up to expectations.

Germans setting out to kick Spain off the park.
Already succeeded with Pedri.

Spain 1-0. Olmo. Made by the 16 year old Yamal. Smart play.

Lovely ball, and the late run by Olmo who 'slots' the ball home.

'Slots' is a quote from a friend on WhatsApp. It's the correct term for that finish, in fairness to him. A slot is firmer than a stroke. Matron.

Deserved equaliser for Germany.

Good to see the English ref book anyone who moves.

Don’t think the unused substitute he booked kicked anyone.

I missed that! Which side?

There’s been a lot of body checks off the ball. Like watching Uruguay in the 80s.

Germany I think: he’s up to 11 bookings now so I’ve lost track.

In fact he’s just booked someone else who’s not playing but Matterface can’t identify them.

Musiala’s best moment just there. He’d regressed into his World Cup anonymous form otherwise.

I can’t think who are the more hatable team
Spain
Portugal
France

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

That was quite the game in the end. Germany made so many good chances. They'd have absolutely f**ked our dads with play like that.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

Spain were never going to win that's via a shoot-out were they?
Congtratz to them. Defeating Germany in their backyard is some achievement.

Clearest penalty not given the ref was at a bad side he thought his arms were tight to his body but nowhere close .Look at Cucherellas reaction he knew he fcuked up but as usual Atwell on VAR did not even blink. How many is that now 2 or 3 times the English boys blew it.
He did add a good chunk of time to be fair and Germany had their chance .
I despise last minute winners before penalties its crushing to miss that drama
