There’s a school of thought that says the right to protest has to sit above any other rule so that you can protest that rule.
The gathering wasn’t expressly illegal as it’s not explicitly named as not a ‘reasonable excuse’. You might think it should fall in the COVID rules but the fact is it doesn’t.
I do feel for the police on the ground because as soon as their superiors refused to engage with the organisers it was going to go wrong.
What I will say is that I can’t think of another example of the whole spectrum of the press falling on one side of an issue. Any suggestions out there? |  | |  |
