Eze abuse 09:14 - Dec 30 with 14216 views | davman | Getting silly isn't it? He wasn't awful at all yesterday; no worse than many of them, but there was a lot more anger towards him than any other player in the Lower Loft. Why do we turn on the talented? My Pompey mate with me was amazed at the level of frustration showed by the crowd in light of our league position and the fact that we were not losing. He was right too...

Eze abuse on 16:38 - Dec 31 by DylanP | Is it anger or frustration? He is not pulling his weight. So, naturally people are frustrated. He hasn't been pulling his weight for a while. If we are winning, people might give him the benefit of the doubt. But being pegged back at home by a very poor Reading team people are going to naturally wonder why we have a passenger in the team while there are 4-5 very talented youngsters who can't get a game. Chair, Oteh, Smyth, and BOS are all really fun to watch (for the tiny amount of time we have seen them play this season). If the game is drab and boring its not rocket science to bring on one of these live-wires to inject a spark. |
I'm not sure if some comments are based only on attending home games as with half our games away I consider Eze a key to how we play as a team and until he turned up @ Forest would think the term passenger more apt for Wzolek but when he does nt turn up away from home, as noted in LfW match reports this year, I hear fans say Pav's had a quiet game, never he's lazy, needs a rest etc or threads criticising him
Eze abuse on 18:17 - Dec 31 with 2536 views | BrianMcCarthy | I thought that he didn't work hard enough in the first half, to be honest. But then I thought the same of Wells and he is older and more experienced. Eze is old enough that he can take some constructive criticism when it is warranted. He has, however, been my favourite player to watch this season and is crucial to how we play. He is learning and deserves support. I would point out that booing is counterproductive and irrational but I think that people who boo are unlikely to be swayed by logic.

Eze is a supremely talented player who has transformed our ability to hold onto the ball and create. Particularly away from home. He clearly now has played too many games in a row for someone early in their first team career and needs a break to freshen up. He might also need to know his place isn't guaranteed. However - and this is going to wind few up - I think there is a fair slice in prejudice from some I hear in the crowd when they call him 'lazy'. They don't like they way he looks and they don't like his swagger. The kind of people who loved 'our Jamie' Mackie. Much more relatable. I think they abuse Eze is getting is just vile tbh. He needs to be supported and nurtured as the most exciting talent we've produced in a very long time.

It may have been just a few, but it was certainly noticeable from the Lower Loft. Aside from Cousins, who was having more than a shocking shocker, there were no moans or groans I noticed that were directed at anyone else. So, it's not a mass of abuse, but there appears to be enough around for it to be heard...

Eze abuse on 10:58 - Jan 1 with 2221 views | timcocking | Recently, it's fair to say he's been poor. I'm all for backing players, nobody on here more committed than me to playing the same eleven in the same positions whenever possible. How do we even know Eze is better than Chair, Oteh, Bright, though? They haven't had a chance, when they have, they've done well. Amazing to see MaClaren so intent on keeping him in. It may be we'd be much better with Freeman central and Bright down the left. The results we've had, i'm content to leave it to our extremely capable manager. Either way, to be moaning at Eze? So infuriating. It will likely mean instead of having deep love and loyalty for QPR, he'll happily ditch us at the first opportunity.

That's a pretty romantic notion. He's a professional footballer - he will leave for another Club if he's offered double or treble what we are paying him I'm afraid. Irrespective of whether the fans support him or boo him!
Eze abuse on 11:28 - Jan 1 with 2193 views | RsStaines | The guy behind me in Ellerslie was telling his mate that Eze is so good he could play for any Prem team but then he did also say the best player he had ever seen at R’s was Ravel Morrison. Eze is good but nowhere near the finished article and still has a lot to learn. Not sure if the expectation is weighing on him or hopefully not becoming complacent. Maybe a start on the bench might be what he needs. Regardless of that so very happy with the turn round from the start of the season and credit to Manager, his team and the players.

Totally agree, until last few games Bidwell walked back into position from 70th minute on, never called out for being lazy, every away game I've been to this year 'Matt Smith walks on for lastly 10' walks around but no thread about lack of effort / lazy, if Sylla did that I'm not sure he would get the same pass. Wzolek very poor at Blackburn, Rotherham and Stoke, BOS replaces him for last 10 at recent home game gets behind his man Puts in goal scoring cross, no clamour to rest Wzolek or replace with BOS. Same should apply to both players, integral to how Mcclaren sets up team.

Still didn't suit some. The bloke behind me was slaughtering him for not tackling and that he should 'lose a bit of weight, starting with that haircut'. Similarly, there was a kid about 13/14 whi, whenever Eze lost the ball or misplaced a pass started up 'Lazy, lazy...' Embarrassing.

Not just embarrassing but unequivocally racist; not only are black players liable to be lazy n-words (as Ron Atkinson had it), they definitely shouldn't draw attention to their blackness by having the sheer effrontery to wear Afro hairstyles. [Post edited 1 Jan 2019 20:57]

There might be prejudice although I hope not. But nobody would confuse Jamie mackies bull in a china shop playing style with eze's laid back approach. It doesn't make eze lazy, far from it, but that gliding casual running style of it masks how hard he is actually working. I think of this a bit like Michael Johnson when he was winning absolutely everything in sight for the 200m and 400m. You look at him and think he's not putting any effort in when he's running, then realize he's broken a world record. He has been off the boil the last few games and I would have rested him today. Glad we didn't though, thought he was much better and that goal should do him good
Eze abuse on 20:54 - Jan 1 with 1620 views | ngbqpr | Interesting to note in that Villa forum linked elsewhere that, in amongst all their anger about our timewasting, is praise for Eze...not the first oppo messageboard that seems to appreciate him more than many of our own.

Eze abuse on 09:26 - Jan 2 with 1426 views | robith | Find it weird that people say Eze doesn't do enough defensively when his close control and turn our are number one "out" ball to relieve pressure. Was also despairing at the Reading game that he was getting grief while Cousins and Scowen were absolutely stinking the gaff up

Other teams have woken up to how good he is. His so called of form is partly due to the attention he’s getting from opponents. Not just doubling up on him but also roughing him up a bit. At the start of the season he looked like a gawkey kid with a bit talent, now they’ve realised he can hurt them. My big worry is that some Prem teams will be showing an interest.

I'd love to see this kid go on to play top level football. He's a little way off that at the moment but it would be a huge achievement for us if he goes on to a premier club for decent money and has a successful career. I love the kids swagger as well.

Yes, and for a young player he has the nouse to know when to play a sideways pass or hold the ball to allow our defence to re group and step up. Plus not sure if some realise his defensive role is to work across the pitch with Wells, splitting the back 4, not up and down as Freeman + Wzolek are tasked to do. I think him and Wells do this very well which is why McClaren is happy to concede possession at times and why we compete so well away from home,

Sadly it's no longer isolated. I was surrounded by them yesterday. The abuse for missing the chance in the first half was on a different level from Wszolek missing the two-yarder against Rotherham. I thought he played very well second half, but even if he hadn't, I see absolutely no reason to throw any criticism at him for his efforts this season. On the contrary, he and Freeman are creating and/or scoring most of our goals in what is turning out to be a much more successful season than we all predicted.

... And that chance was MUCH tougher than the one Pav missed against Rotherham. We have odd fans. I have asked before, but is there anyone on this forum who has shouted him down who wants to explain why? I get the spur of the moment thing like a missed chance, but misplaced passes I don't really get. Anyone?
