Blackpool’s silent manager search continued this morning with Karl Oyston determined to keep it out of the public eye.
It’s two weeks since Lee Clark resigned as Pool boss following relegation to League One and as yet not a word has been uttered from anyone at Bloomfield Road about the search.
Oyston spent the past week talking to a number of candidates, including favourite Ian Holloway who publically threw his name into the hat during a TV interview ten days ago.
Youth team boss Richie Kyle has moved to odds-on favourite for the job with bookmaker BetVictor, although The Gazette understands he’s unlikely to be approached but could be involved in a future management team in some capacity.
It’s believed Oyston is keenly monitoring the situation at Leeds United where Neil Redfearn has been replaced as manager by Uwe Rosler.
The 49-year-old is still under contract at Elland Road but could leave in the next few days and it’s understood Oyston would be keen to speak to him.
Redfearn managed Leeds for 33 games last season, winning eleven and drawing seven, but has recently been involved in a battle with the club following the suspension of Pool favourite Steve Thompson who was his number two.
A move for Redfearn, with Thompson as his assistant, could be possible, although there are others showing interest. One who is being considered is West Ham assistant manager Neil McDonald, who is looking for a move into management at the end of the current Premier League season.
It’s expected the Tyneside coach will follow Sam Allardyce out of West Ham this summer and would be happy to talk to Oyston about a move.
McDonald, 49, has spent the last four years at Upton Park after assisting former Pool boss Allardyce at Blackburn and Newcastle.
As for Holloway, it’s understood the former Pool hero remains interested in a Bloomfield Road return but would require a major restructure by Oyston.
Currently the bookies’ odds aren’t giving anything away but they are tipping a couple to join the race.
Chelsea legend Dennis Wise 12/1, Stuart Pearce 12/1, Alan Irvine 16/1 and Southend boss Phil Brown 16/1 are all talked about.
It’s been a frustrating spell for Blackpool’s supporters with chairman Oyston remaining silent and no information coming out of the club about the search at all.

Always remember that I was watching us play Wrexham that day and of course it was before the days of social media etc but one of the lads in the West was listening to the radio and said there'd been a fire at Valley Parade - of course at the time we were surrounded by a largely wooden stand and when you think back beneath the seats at the back of the west there was assorts of rubbish stored. Never really realised the enormity of it and as a 15 year old lad I just remember crying that night and saying I was never going to return to football. Hard to believe it was 30 years ago. Am pretty sure there was a song brought out not long after for the families of those who killed and I went out and bought it - was it a cover version of 'You'll never walk alone'. Horrible day that will always stick with me.

This could either be the best thing to happen at Blackpool for months or it could be another nail in the coffin. I would say Karl has got two weeks to get things sorted and a manager in place or we're right back where we started. No squad, no targets and no plan - get someone in who all the fans will get behind and let's at least give ourselves something to smile about on the pitch, even if it's rotten off it. |

Seems to me that we've been building up some goodwill from other football fans but after Tuesday night's antics I just got the impression that a few were starting to brand us as just troublemakers and aggressors.
I'd say to those who threw the eggs - concentrate on the real problem and don't let anything distract you from that. Protest is always at it's best when it's the protest that is given the headlines not everything around it. |

By far, for me, the worst player we've had in the team on a regular basis over the last 14 months - he had a spell alongside Lundstram where he looked OK (but that was more down to his partner) but he's small, ineffective, can't pass a ball and offers little. At least look at options Clarky to see whether he really is the best we have! |

Have to say despite a few having a pop at Steve Davies's performance, I thought when he went off that Madine was a poor replacement and hardly offered anything that would make me think he'll turn our season around. |

Getting close to that point when we'll be able to tell who's done better as Blackpool manager this season (although that is kind of evident!) - Riga managed 16 games and whilst it's harsh to include the Leeds game under Clark here's the stats so far

I realise there are some on here who go to many more away games than I do but was just trying think and I reckon the last one I saw was when we trounced Derby at Pride Park .. was it 2-0? Was there yesterday in hope of seeing another Midlands win but with no success! |

BSA will, with immediate effect, be withdrawing from talks with the chairman of Blackpool Football Club.
We feel that we have been given no alternative for the following reasons:
The chairman’s recent words and actions have alienated supporters and brought our football club into disrepute.
While we appreciate that his family has been the subject of a great deal of abuse, which we do not condone, we feel his apology was not commensurate with the damage done to supporters, particularly those who have disabilities.
Despite the success of the Holloway years our club has since lost the respect of the footballing world; fans feel they are no longer respected and Blackpool is no longer the growing, family club it once was.
A lack of long term vision under his stewardship has meant our decline from a competitive Championship team to one that looks likely to be relegated.
The structures for future success have not been put in place in the way that we would expect for a cash-rich club like ours, whether it be building a scouting network, updating training facilities, striving to retain our successful youth players or maintaining the ground.
While our members have welcomed the opportunity to put their concerns to him directly at Fans Forums, constructive criticism seems not to have been acted upon or at times recognised for the positive support for the club it is.
In his public statements and actions the chairman does not seem to share our pride in this great club, our aspirations for its future or our reasonable desire to see a long term Premier League legacy and wise investment of the funds that the Premier League has generated.
Through our members forums and direct communication we have as an organisation consistently urged the chairman to look again at the way the club is run, to listen to the concerns of genuine supporters and win back hearts and minds. This he has consistently failed to do. BSA have consistently spoken in the Blackpool Gazette about the need for communication with the fans and investment in the club - a selection of some of more recent examples of these articles are appended below.
Should there be a change of ownership or executive leadership - or clear signs of a long term vision - we would, of course, reconsider this decision, but we have with some regret reached the conclusion that there has recently been an unwillingness to listen to this particular voice of the fans and to act upon it.
We remain an organisation committed to dialogue as the only way to effect permanent change. At this moment in time, however, we feel that continuing to hold talks with the chairman when there is so little sign of long term vision and attempts to heal wounds would be counterproductive.
We once again want a club where all supporters feel they are valued, where the internecine warfare which is tearing our club apart has ended and where chairman and supporters work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and shared purpose. If this action is s step towards achieving that goal it will have been worthwhile.
BSA members are, as always, invited to contact the committee if they have comments, concerns or questions about this decision.
We would like to make clear that this decision is in no way influenced by the intimidation that BSA members have been subjected to. A separate communication will follow on this matter next week.
