Ashes thread 17:11 - Jul 15 with 108734 views | johnhoop | Now that the World Cup’s done and dusted we can turn our attention to the next major event. For me the most interesting questions about team selection are; 1) Do we open with Jason Roy? For me it’s a no brainer. I know all the arguments against- he doesn’t even open for Surrey, he struggles against the moving ball etc- but I feel that he’s in such good form and the alternatives are so mediocre that it would be silly not to. If he does come off he could give us control of the game in the first couple of hours. Him and Rory Burns for me. 2) Now that Jofra Archer has to have a place in the side, who are the other two quick bowlers going to be. If fit I guess Anderson has to play and I would give the third spot to Woakes but this means no place for Stuart Broad and the 90 mph+ Mark Wood. 3) Which spinner to go with - Ali or Rashid? Ali’s batting form seems to have dipped but it’s still not an easy decision to make. Any thoughts?

Oz won’t need the new ball now, this one’s doing more!

You could see from the cheats face how happy they were with the replacement before they even bowled a ball Long term for England though this defeat should be awake up call and the focus back on red ball cricket

They have a minimum number of overs to bowl in a day so it'll be when they're completed (if they don't bowl us out) or when the light fades enough that they can't bowl their quick bowlers whichever happens first.

Ashes thread on 18:21 - Sep 8 with 1889 views | Rangersw12 | A brave effort The cheat has been the difference and we've been a bit unlucky with injuries but fair play to the Aussie quicks they have been excellent all series Root needs to resign and concentrate on his batting and we need to get rid of Roy and maybe Bairstow ( who's been poor for over a year now )
Ashes thread on 18:24 - Sep 8 with 1868 views | ted_hendrix | They have the best strike bowler in the world and the best batsman in the world, having said that we have let ourselves down again especially our batsmen who have shown a stupid lack of discipline when it mattered most. Joe Root has made some strange decisions too and has IMO been poor as a captain and batsman, absolutely that is not a scapegoat comment. Best team won, no getting away from it but we contributed to our own downfall.

You're graceless and charmless in defeat and have no dignity in victory. You might not have been born there but in all other ways you're a typical convict.

Did you celebrate the Leach wicket seeing it was a Saffer who got it and not a fair dinkum Aussie ?

I partially agree. I think the Australians were saved by the umpires at Lords, if england had been allowed to bowl their quicks towards the end of play the complexion of the series could’ve been a little different. A part of me struggles to understand why England’s quicks weren’t allowed to bowl in fading light but it was fine for the Australians to bowl theirs in fading at Old Trafford in two occasions. I’ll eat my hat where Overton and his batting is concerned, I thought he really dug in and didn’t really look like he was ever riding his luck. I thought England on the whole really dug their heels in today when I thought the game would be over by lunch. Roy really is a passenger England can’t afford, stick Pope in for the next test pls. He can’t do any worse really can he.

Ah yes, Labuschagne...The product of Archer's assault on Smith. Got to say thanks for that!
