2 Vale Fans Injured 20:37 - Apr 13 with 12553 viewsdale1968

Outside the train station according to this off their board.

I witnessed it and it was absolutely awful. It was like something off a film, I saw it in slow motion. Unbelievable.

Went straight over to the lads, the one bloke got up straight away and got away lightly whilst his mate was on the ground not moving.

The riot van sped off after the car but I really hope they get caught for this.

Good job, Daily Mail. Good job.

The Daily mail trying to create trouble, never.

I walk down that road most days, it is a miracle there are not more accidents on it, constantly cars speeding around with no license or insurance in most cases.

How do you know they have no licence or insurance - they do not need to display them?

Just through hearing about incidents in the paper etc, happens a vast majority of the time around that area.

I'm going to go all Miss Marple here, but why would a 'group of friends' who had come by train be drinking in the Commercial, on their way to Spotland, be run over outside the train station at 2.45pm. That just doesn't make sense to me as a fan.

If it were me, coming to Spotland as a Vale fan, I'd have been leaving the Commercial at 2pm either on foot or via taxi as I would have really wanted to see the game, a promotion party.

The fact it happened at 2.45pm is the biggest clue in this unsavoury episode.

Consider this: Would you have been in a pub on the wrong side of Stoke at 2.45pm if Dale had a chance of going up at Vale Park?

You really are an idiot

More newspaper nonsense. The Commercial pub used to stand on Milnrow Road, between Molesworth Street and Chichester Street. It was demolished about 20 years ago.

There is the Corporation pub on Milkstone Road, so let's assume that was the one in question.

Why leave the pub and go BACK to the railway station (about 300 yards away) at that time, when the destination was Spotland - about a mile and a half in completely the opposite direction ? There is a taxi office almost opposite the Corporation pub, so there would be no obvious need to return to the station at all - especially with only 15 minutes to kick-off.

Something doesn't add up. I only hope the louts responsible are caught. There's enough CCTV around there to be of some use, so hopefully it's only a matter of time.

It's been reported in the MEN that someone has been arrested. I look forward to the Daily Mail's retraction.

The article is nonsense

The fans were just trrying to get a taxi to the ground, as I have sated, this was in no way related to Rochdale Fc or its fans

Firstly, I would like to wish the two injured Vale fans a speedy recovery.

Secondly, having done a little research on the incident, it would appear that it was in no way football related. I too am looking forward to the Mail's apology.

I really hope that they throw the book at those responsible. Attempted murder imho.

If I was Chris Dunphy I would be writing a strongly worded letter to the writers of this lazy, mischief making article, demanding a full apology.

He'll probably get a few hours community service. Nothing would surprise me with our justice system and the solicitors with no morals who get these criminals off with a light sentence.

So, if you were unfortunate enough to find yourself in the position of being accused of something you didn't do, something quite serious - you'd be happy to be represented by a barrister "with morals" who - believing you to be guilty as hell, made sure he screwed your case up good and proper.

OK.

That last sentence reads like it contradicts itself.

The driver will no doubt get a hefty driving ban and a possible prison sentence if indeed it was pre-meditated, what did the boy Hughes recieve, 4/5 years?

It is being reported that the vale fans involved had a run in with dale fans just before the hit and run incident - seems they think the 2 incidents are related.

our local paper has tweeted its front page for tomorrow's paper (it comes out abour 4pm today). The story is splashed across the front page, citing the hit and run being a result of an incident between rival supporters at a nearby pub. Apologies if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that out of all the eye witness reports from Vale supporters, there hasn't been any which has even suggested Rochdale fans were involved. Unfortunately, following incidents at Wembley and Newcastle, anything that can be linked to football hooliganism will be for the next few weeks whilst the editorials of "Is the English disease returning?" get written.
