Chris Dagnall has tweeted that he's gutted for both Hill and Flitcroft, and on the Barnsley board there's talk Flicker had asked to sleep on it re. taking temp charge.

It was only this time last year Barnsley were doing great and Vaz Te's goals were sending them towards the play offs. Then Barnsley sell and take the quick buck and the rest is Hillys history. Food for thought if Dunphy is looking at offloading Kennedy,Grimes or Tutte in the next month.

Can't understand why anyone would be happy. Of course some of us have been proved right when we said Barnsley were the wrong club to move a career forward, but there's no doubt in my mind that the problem was he simply didn't have the funds to compete. I do hope Barnsley go down now, and go down rock bottom of the lot.

Dont think the budget is an excuse - how many years have Barnsley been in the championship now? He just couldn't do it. And nobody else in the xhampionship wanted him.

This is true. He filled the team with players not up to the standard but totally loyal to him (Dagnall/Wiseman/Etuhu/Kennedy and more), and towards the end was being kept afloat by panic loans from the good ship Nottingham (Tudgay and Greening). The signing of Mido in the summer must go down as the worst of his career.

Clearly a man out of his depth and somebody who was apparently touting himself for the Blackpool and Burnley jobs while still in charge at Oakwell.

And he speaks about himself in the third person like Gollum.

By all accounts, Greening was shite. But he does look like he could float.

It's a shame as I do feel that he would have got us out League One the right way and not the way we eventually left and raised his stock even higher.

He could have almost achieved what he did he at Barnsley with us I feel.

It's surprising Flicker is even thinking about it, unless he's become less close to Hill of late. Hard to see how he might be kept on long term, even if Barnsley win 5-0 at Peterborough on Tuesday.

The front-runner to replace Hill is the locally based O’Driscoll, recently given the boot by Nottingham Forest.

As for Hill and/or Flitcroft, I expect they'll have to start again near the bottom, but they'll be lucky to be fixed up in the near future. (This is not a dig at them - what they did at Dale will long be appreciated - if not the way they left.)

Another club which would be perfect for Hill: Preston.

Westley is under massive pressure now and hasn't ever really looked like achieving anything there. Saying that, a conversation between Ridsdale and Hill about finances in football could be an interesting one.

It's about time that club realised they're a league 1 club at best, their expectations are somewhat too high
Feel sorry for hilly tbh (didn't hate him for leaving btw) he was doing well on the resources he had which in the championship is incredibly difficult
He will bounce back and probably end up higher than Barnsley

He actually filled the team with players that were not only loyal to him but that were within the paltry, unreasonable and unworkable budget he had for a club who want to survive in the Championship. Mark Robins had the right idea.

What Keith Hill did at Spotland with a minuscule budget is exactly the reason he was a target for Barnsley. Sadly, he's not a miracle worker and when you are working under those constraints, it's inevitable that you won't succeed.

Because football club boards don't get sacked (sadly) the manager pays the price.

Barnsley are where they deserve to be. Not because of Keith Hill, but despite having Keith Hill as their manager. A hopeless task.

Agreed. Keith Hill, despite how he might be as a person, is a very good manager with the right idea on how football should be played and how players should conduct themselves.

there seems to be this belief, mainly cited on this messageboard, that Keith Hill is some horrible person. It is repeatedly mentioned that he's a great manager but not a nice person.

Those players who have worked with him seem to have nothing but praise for him both as a manager and a person. It's their judgement I trust.

And never forget the play-offs, Wembley, promotion and magic moments Keith Hill brought to this club.

I have no doubt that hill is a decent manager who worked wonders at Dale but lets not forget he had a very capable colleague who worked with him...
Dale have changed dramatically since hill moved on and what riles me is the way Hill orchestrated that move.

The whole setup under hill is not here at the club anymore and i wonder would CD make those finances available again if hill was interested in coming..
Then again what as JC done wrong!...nothing we are currently punching above our weight in this division and if it continues and Dale reach the playoffs whould Hill be a far distant ghost that as well and truely been exorcised!
We will find out come May 2013...

well if its about how he orchestrated the move, let's give Craig Dawson the same treatment for putting in a transfer request, let's criticise Grant Holt for the his last month at the club etc.

Look its football, and unfortunately thing don't always work out in an idealistic way. We had 5 brilliant years under Hilly and to allow that final week to affect that memory seems incredulous.

It's not worked out for him at Barnsley, but whilst it brings more pressure on Coleman to succeed, the current evidence is that he is doing that, and long may that continue.

Hill was amazing at repairing Ford Fiesta's and Robin Reliants while at Dale and we as fans witnessed the best football we've ever seen. The club benefitted from sell ons too.

Was he lucky that Buckley and Dawson came through at the right time? Possibly.

In the Chumps league however he was working on Ford Focuses and VW Passats, again doing his job with Vaz Te and Craig Davis.

Unfortunately half of the teams in there are supported by parachute payments and shop in the supercar market. Others are clubs that have fallen on tough times but suddenly have loadsa money, eg Leic, Forest, Leeds in potentia.

Add in the resergent and newly supported clubs and he was on a hiding to nothing. Oh, and he had a bit of an injury crisis to a few of his starting 11.

Hope he is back in Football soon.

Very easy to say when you're on the outside looking in. There's nothing wrong with a board having ambition and most boards would react when their club drops right to the foot of the division.

By your reasoning our fans/board should be happy to finish in and around the relegation zone every season.

Tempted to go and have a fiver on JC @ 40/1 on the next Barnsley manager market, just to watch the odds shorten and the panic instill in a Yorkshire club punching above its weight but still holding delusions of grandeur.

In fact, if three or four Rochdale fans made independent bets you'd probably see the "Sky Sports understands" stuff even though there is more chance of a Qatari billionaire buying bury than JC leaving the club in the transfer window!

We did well out of all the players you mention - and Hill understood the brief of develop and sell on - a crucial part of any managers role at this club. We've moved on as now has he. I hold him in the highest regard for what he achieved here, but we'll never have him back as manager.

Hills job was to keep Barnsley up. Two months ago he was god after stuffing brum in their own back yard. Barnsley don't kick on and he's gone. If the club appoint from outside it'll be interesting to see how many of the ex dale players are shipped out
