Swansea City v Hull City : Matchday Thread 2021/22 *SATURDAY UPDATE 17:29 - Sep 7 with 17371 viewsNotLoyal

English Football League
Championship

Swansea City v Hull City
Saturday September 11th 2021
New named stadium
Kick off 3pm

Match Officials: Keith from Stroud is the man in the middle on Saturday. He will be assisted by Robert Merchant and Sam Lewis, while Peter Wright will be the fourth official.

Keith from Stroud, more than a name, he’s a small town as well

Hull facts, you better believe it
Hull City come to the newly named stadium with a manager called Grant McCann, he was the first ex footballer to walk from Portsmouth to Lowestoft in a bathing costume made from finger nails. The other incredible fact about him is his ability to leap sideways and then pivot like Darren Gough used to do on Masterchef when he won the dancing competition.

Hull is in Humberside and is a very famous small town of people made up of idiots. A local psychiatrist once described them all as suffering from ‘delusions of grandeur’ The most memorable thing that happened there is when Del Boy and Rodney went to Hull and back in the reality TV series only fools and horses. Most of that was filmed in Stenhiusemuir.

This is the Humble bridge, it’s very accommodating. It was stolen from Pembroke Dock

Some people have said this is a must win game for Swansea, but it isn’t at all. It’s a game that the winner wins, not mustly. The last result was a 4-4 draw in Hull when both teams scored four goals each to draw 4-4. The draw meant that both teams may as well just agreed to share a point each and save all the rushing about and shouting. The game was described as exciting and lovely by several football people who watched the 4-4 draw.

Swansea City v Hull City
Games won: 31
Games drawn: 18
Games lost: 29

Swansea City have won more games than Hull who have drawn the same amount of games as Swansea. This is quite a statistic when you consider Hull have lost 31 games but only won 29 games. The 18 games that have been drawn meant nobody won the game and that’s still a record between the two teams today.

Were you there ?

I find that watching matches on tv don't give you the full picture.

Before you ask, yes I was there.

Were you there?

No, I live the other side of the world.

I disagree however, it’s amazing how much people miss at the games. The amount of times I’ve had to pull up footage to prove my point against someone swearing blind they saw something that never happened is incredible.

Which part of what I said do you disagree with exactly then? Be specific. Or are you just throwing your toys out of the pram in a general way and hoping that will suffice?

It won’t, by the way.

It appears we have a new troll to play with, judging from various comments made tonight.

The ever increasing trolls are more akin to little pesky gremlins. The wetter they get the more we see. Ever diluting. Ever more marginalised.

The standard of constructive critique and analysis is waning. The sheeple are amassing.

RM needs to find a winning formula, asap.

He certainly does.

I have noticed on a few occasions “give it 10 games” is now steadily creeping up to “10-15 games”. Is this a cycle that just continually moves indefinitely until we reach, what? 50? 100?

He needs to start getting results on the board. No other manager in our modern history has needed months and months to change the style and get results. It’s baffling why people are insisting this is the case here.

We have a squad that has been fairly heavily invested in. We have spent more this season than the last two combined and more than the majority of the league.

We have spent £5m haven’t we? Is that more than any amount we have ever spent at this level?

We need to see results.

I have watched live matches, then watched same match on tv later and the full game not reflected in the highlights, or tv coverage.

Sorry Jasper if that offends you.

That’s because they are highlights.

Watching a full match on TV, from multiple angles, with access to replays and various vantage points is infinitely better than being at a single vantage point.

So back to the point. Which point do you think I missed? Specifically.

Are you saying that we created far more chances and the camera decided to hide it? Are you saying we had far more attacking intent and good incisive forward passes were disguised as negative passes by the camera?

Explain.

I entirely agree with this statement. You need your own eyes to see the whole pitch and picture of how play is panning out. I have seen over the years the people who complain the most and often rely on stats to back up their argument, are often the ones who rarely attend the live matches. I would say that when leaving yesterday the majority there were very pleased with the performance and felt we were unlucky.

Disagree. One of the first things football teams do the following day is re-watch the game and analyse it. Undoubtedly there are things picked up on the various angles that was not at the time. It’s rare you can say it the other way around.

It’s one of those fans myths that perpetuate Internet forums. Like bidding wars and “last man rule”. All myths.

Do you think we deserved any penalties today?
Did you watch the whole match today ?
Have you anything positive to say ?

Do you think we deserved any penalties today?
Yes absolutely, we should have had at least one, definite foul on Laird.

Did you watch the whole match today?
Yes ( but unfortunately could not attend).

Have you anything positive to say?
I thought there was a vast improvement in our play, I thought we past it quicker and our movement off the ball was better, drawing player with us to create space for players like Downes and Naughton to push forward.
Playing against a Hull team who were happy to defend with 11 men behind the ball for most of the match was always going to be hard, we have ourselves in the past done a Hull, and defended against a better team for most of a match, and gone on to praise our defence for holding out for a point, and keeping a clean sheet, yet when Hull managed to do it some are still not happy with the performance of a Swans side that had numerous shots blocked or saved.
Looking at the stats from bbc sport we had 16 shots 4 on target, although I'd query the 4 on target, their goalkeeper saved at least 4 without the blocks and some still aren't happy.
There is obviously an improvement, I don't think we'll be playing such defensive teams every week, Hull showed no ambition yesterday, they achieved their goal, they got the point they came for.
I hope our next game will be more open, then we should be able to make a better assessment of where we are in terms of improvement.
Reading some of the comments, I'd like to know how many goals would we have needed to win by to make some people happy, if Matty's free kick had gone in, or if we were awarded and scored a penalty would their opinions be different.

A penalty or a free kick being the source of goals was one of the main concerns for people in the past.

The first one was a penalty in my opinion, the second one wasn’t, defender just stood there as he is entitled to do.

I think people are expecting us to have some sort of incisive attacks with 70% of the ball. To have 70% of the ball and look back at the game and point to a penalty shout and a free kick as the most likely source of a goal - then I think people will rightly raise some concerns.

TV cameras have more coverage than the naked eye.

They give the whole picture.

Whilst there, you are often myopic and miss much.

No unfortunately not. They would say that Hull were so bad we should have scored 17. The problem is they’re so upset being proved wrong by our catastrophic end to last season and play off failure that they have dedicated their pathetic lives to sniping at our new manager and players . Steve didn’t organize the players Pre season (even though he was getting Pauli’s for it) , Steve filled our side with loanees that meant a bear total rebuild in crucial positions, Steve messed up last season and he didn’t have the courage to carry on this season. Russell Martin is showing he has that courage and an eye for a real player but he gets slated.

It’s almost as if they’d prefer the Team to fail just to reassure their fragile little egos “see, I was right all along”. Unfortunately they aren’t. They are very sad people.

Correct.

When I used to live in the country, if the game I was at was televised, then I would ensure I recorded it to probably watch it again, knowing I would likely miss a fair bit while at the game for a variety of reasons.

I always remember leaving the vetch swearing that Martin Thomas’ goal against West Ham was deflected. When I watched it back it was clear that it was incredible swerve.

I don’t think I have ever needed to rewatch a game I have watched on the telly though… except to prove to someone who was there that what they thought happened - didn’t.
