English Football League
Championship

Swansea City v Hull City
Saturday September 11th 2021
New named stadium
Kick off 3pm

Match Officials: Keith from Stroud is the man in the middle on Saturday. He will be assisted by Robert Merchant and Sam Lewis, while Peter Wright will be the fourth official.

Keith from Stroud, more than a name, he’s a small town as well

Hull facts, you better believe it
Hull City come to the newly named stadium with a manager called Grant McCann, he was the first ex footballer to walk from Portsmouth to Lowestoft in a bathing costume made from finger nails. The other incredible fact about him is his ability to leap sideways and then pivot like Darren Gough used to do on Masterchef when he won the dancing competition.

Hull is in Humberside and is a very famous small town of people made up of idiots. A local psychiatrist once described them all as suffering from ‘delusions of grandeur’ The most memorable thing that happened there is when Del Boy and Rodney went to Hull and back in the reality TV series only fools and horses. Most of that was filmed in Stenhiusemuir.

This is the Humble bridge, it’s very accommodating. It was stolen from Pembroke Dock

Some people have said this is a must win game for Swansea, but it isn’t at all. It’s a game that the winner wins, not mustly. The last result was a 4-4 draw in Hull when both teams scored four goals each to draw 4-4. The draw meant that both teams may as well just agreed to share a point each and save all the rushing about and shouting. The game was described as exciting and lovely by several football people who watched the 4-4 draw.

Swansea City v Hull City
Games won: 31
Games drawn: 18
Games lost: 29

Swansea City have won more games than Hull who have drawn the same amount of games as Swansea. This is quite a statistic when you consider Hull have lost 31 games but only won 29 games. The 18 games that have been drawn meant nobody won the game and that’s still a record between the two teams today.

Swansea City v Hull City : Matchday Thread 2021/22 *SATURDAY UPDATE on 21:06 - Sep 11 by Whiterockin

We continued to try to play through the midfield. Hull then pushed their defence up and condensed the whole off the midfield making it virtually impossible to play through. We needed someone to break from midfield onto a through ball or one over the top, this would have pushed them back and given us more space. Sometimes we need to vary the tactics to succeed.

And this is key.Martin has one way-his way. He's said as much and also we have to accept it even though it means short term pain.
He wants us to trust him long term even if he might be wrong.

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

We needed to stop trying to pass our way into the penalty area. We controlled the rest of the pitch. We could have afforded a few risky crosses. There's always the chance of a knock down or rebound.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I thought that we lacked the confidence to try things around the box. A goal would perhaps given that confidence.

We appeared to have more than one good shout for a penalty as well.

Definitely an improvement, today we just needed a bit of luck. My biggest concern still is that there isn't enough goals in the team.

The second penalty shout, just a short while later he booked Bidwell for exactly the same thing. The ref was poor.

Yes we looked abit toothless, th final third was our weak point but didn't Martin say he was working from the defence out and attack would be the last to improve?

Martin deserves some more time yet because the improvement is clear. Cooper got a lot longer before people started moaning.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Carrying a few too many players afraid to try their luck. At times Downes and Grimes were our deepest players with three centre halves pushing on into midfield to play the football. Not sure that's where a spark is going to come from, despite Naughton's one decent shot.

It's several steps forward from where we were, against a poor side. If we could take some of the quick interplay we were using in our own half into the opposition's (Downes especially, played some excellent stuff under pressure but near the opposition's box wouldn't try to lay a glove), and take on more shots without having to be egged on by the crowd, we might get some results.

The next step is to get Grimes and Downes to cover each other . When there is a clear opportunity to bring the ball out either must do it and the other drop back for security. I thought the same though - Downes had some lovely touches and the lads are gelling. A million miles from Preston and a massive scope to improve yet further.

I enjoyed it, even though it was ultimately frustrating. Definitely going along the right lines, just a shame we didn't do the Grimes deal to bring in the Brentford lad.

A simple case of one really poor team not having a clue on how to break down another really poor team

Glass not so much half empty but smashed for you by the sounds. I think we made a massive improvement on the Preston performance and we’re unlucky not to score. Now boys look good and more to come back from injury. Cheer up FFS

Remove Grimes and replace with Walsh. Problem solved.

The Walsh situation is farcical we are in the middle of September and he still hasn't kicked a ball in anger

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

This 100%. I think Downes has more to offer than Grimes already. The extra potency at ten would make a massive difference for us. I have to say that we wasted a lot of ball sending it out wide. We have to go through the middle more often and mix up the play more often.

Some proper perspective for the unthinking happy clappers:

- One of the most boring, turgid, toothless side-to-side bore fests this calendar year
- We boringly drew 0-0 at home to a hapless League 1 side who set-up for a point
- We boringly had 4 shots on target against a hapless League 1 side with a hapless manager who played for a point
- We woulda been high-pressed by any half decent outfit in this league; and folded as per
- We were unable to breakdown a one-man Midfield (anchor) in Huddlestone who held them together, singlehandedly
- We woulda won that at a canter with last term's team and set-up
- We are 4th from bottom ffs (not Top), unprecedented, unacceptable stuff
- Our proper, clever, knowing fans were massively underwhelmed in the stadium

The Acid test : the Boos from the East. The very best barometer. The boos need to be replaced with the customary fists-a-pumpin. ASAP.

I remember when we would face a similar issue back in the day, it would be simple diag from Ash to Dyer over the top. Used to be quite successful at making teams think twice and Dyer managed a few goals from it I’m sure. Paul Anderson before him as well. Looking at Russ’ work at MK there did seem to be some similar variation to their game when trying to create chances. He obviously had to sort out the messy defending immediately, which has probably been a lot of the work over the break. We need to find some invention within the team in the final third now.

New Williams tried one but it didn't come off. Brandon Cooper can ping a crossfield ball, hopefully he's not out of the manager's thoughts after his trip away. Laird should be quick enough to worry defenders but not seen him to much off the ball yet.

The sheeple clearly need to stop, and think. And see what thinking people see.

We drew 0-0 against the worst team and manager in this league. This, after the much hyped unique 2 weeks Russy had with his players. All the hype we heard pre match simply dissolved into a nothingness, as per. There's a pattern. Yet the unthinking are still clapping, happily, blindly.

Any other decent team woulda pinned our powderpuff efforts back a notch or three - as per, this term. Nil pointe.

At least we got a point. Six games and still no home win. Unprecedented stuff.

Not sure how anyone can see a 0-0 draw against one of the worst teams in the league as anything but disappointing to be perfectly honest.

Again, yes we kept the ball, yes we passed it… but we were slow, lacked invention or any sort of creativity and pace again.

There are a few games a season where you circle to get the 3 points, especially when it looks like you may be trying to fight against the drop. This was one of them.

Ntcham and Downes looked good. We have a squad with a fair bit of investment in now, there really isn’t many excuses not to be putting some noteworthy points on the board.

We shouldn’t be relying on a referee giving us penalties, we need to create chances we can convert on our own terms, especially against teams like Hull… at home.

Once you start becoming pleased with performances simply because we could have had a penalty suggests that your standards probably aren’t as high as they should be.

I just said some positive things, I praised individual players and stated that there is no reason we can’t be putting some serious points on the board.

Sorry, not everyone will be happy to pretend how great things are. Some will call it as they see it, not how they would prefer to interpret it.
