Corona Virus on 19:48 - May 11 by exiledclaseboy | On coat/tubegate, Kay Burley was wearing an overcoat in Downing Street earlier when she decided to cut off Sturgeon to yell at Hancock while he was entering No 10. So it must have been a bit parky. |
Or she had spilled some food on here blouse, and she was covering it up

It’s possible but unlikely. They’re not political appointments. The same two would be in those jobs if Starmer (for example) was PM.

Poor Boris, totally out of his depth. Shown up as a bumbling fckn clown of the highest order. If wasn't so tragic, we'd be pssn ourselves giggling.

Corona Virus on 19:59 - May 11 with 1359 views | magicdaps10 | Just something different from the current topic of Boris's speeches. Do you think that the scientists have actually worked out that the virus has actually been around for longer than first anticipated? Meaning that herd immunity was in practice without any of us ever knowing? I get a sneaky feeling, could possibly be confused with hope, that we could all come winter be saying "what the hell did we just witness".

They’re recruited in open competition I think, external recruitment. Not sure of the detail but there’ll be some kind of commission involved.

Corona Virus on 18:32 - May 11 by Neath_Jack | This going back to work stuff, he specifically used construction workers and manufacturing in his waffle last night. Both those industries never stopped (on the whole) working, mainly due the Government stating that they were to keep operating right from the beginning. On the tube / coat issue - BBC News at 6 just showed one of the stations in London this morning, most were wearing coats, both padded and other types. |
Exactly right on construction. On the tube bit, we’ve already ascertained that the picture doing the rounds this morning was a fake. The picture was taken in early March just before lockdown. It’s now been removed by twitter. Other pictures showing the tube not very busy / absolutely packed out (depending on whether people actually ever travel on a rush hour tube or not so judge it very differently) are of today, as are the many pictures of the tube with 2 people sitting in a carriage printed by the government supporting Guardian.

Vallance (chief scientific advisor) reports to the PM and cabinet secretary. Whitty (CMO) is a civil servant so presumably reports to the permanent secretary of the Department of Health.
