Corona Virus on 15:13 - May 11 by londonlisa2001 | Not here it’s not. Anyway, the pictures that were circulating on social media have now been shown to be March so it’s not worth debating any longer. It’s 13 degrees here at the moment and sunny. If you need a padded North Face type jacket as was in the fake picture God knows how you survive in January. |
It's currently 12c in south london. Not exactly summer and blowing a gale

In an ideal world, yes. Investment carries risk, and any property owner dependent on uninterrupted rents runs the risk of losing their gamble. It's not like anyone will miss the landlord, is it? He's just a middle man, leeching profit and driving up the price of housing.

Corona Virus on 15:14 - May 11 by jasper_T | I actually am in favour of people not having to go without food because a global pandemic has left them with no means of making an income. Why should the burden fall on the poorest who can no longer work through no fault of their own, while the richest expect to be paid in full regardless of circumstance? Practical suggestions for how the working class can bear the weight of yet more responsibility for generating profits for their social betters. Tories in all but name. |
You're sniping and sniping at Labour, but not suggesting any solutions! So what IS your proposal? Anyone in a rented house suddenly becomes the owner and is no longer liable for rent? Or no-one in a rented property has to pay any more rent for, what, the next five years? Ten years? Come on, speak up. [Post edited 11 May 2020 15:23]

So I say it’s 13 degrees, and you argue that it’s 12? Really? Whatever. It really doesn’t matter. As I said, the picture of people packed in this morning has been shown to be fake, the one I was talking about with everyone in big padded jackets dressed like it was winter. The Guardian, who’ve obviously been huge government supporters throughout, have published pictures that were actually taken this morning. I put some on here earlier. Not a big padded jacket in sight...

This morning at around 9am it was 7c and blowing a gale - I would certainly be wearing a thick coat. And whilst that picture may have been fake, what about the video footage in this link? https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-commuters-pack-london-tube-platforms-afte

UBI, moratorium on rents and mortgages until whatever date we're actually safe to open back up, tax the living daylights out of landlords and discourage buy-to-let behaviour. It should fall on the people at the top to sacrifice, because they can without issue. I won't mourn for someone losing their 2nd/3rd/5th property during a global pandemic. I will mourn for people being forced out onto the streets because the company they worked for closed and the landlord needed his rent to pay his mortgage.

I can assure you my reasons for moving out of my property & renting it out had nothing to do with 'leeching & driving up the price of housing' But hey ho Ill let the tenants live there free of charge & carrying on trying top pay the mortgage. I'd vote for that, all of it. Unfortunately the great British Public wouldn't, and didn't. I moved to Spain, where they have a Socialist government; life's too short.

What about it? As I’ve said repeatedly, there are times and stations where it’s busier. But the tube has 5% of its normal footfall. Look further down that Sky report to see a picture of one woman on the tube this morning, with no one sitting down at all. London infection rates are falling faster than anywhere else, and yet there’ve been pictures of a so called ‘packed tube’ on and off for weeks. In Hammersmith where I live, we’ve had a far lower infection rate per capita than Swansea for the epidemic as a whole. And we’ve a far higher population density. It’s 11,000 people per sq km while Swansea is 650. God knows how. Given all this packing together. It’s almost as if people here are being sensible despite what the media are trying to say...

Why not sell your house if you don't need it? By holding on to it you drive up the cost of housing whether you intend it or not, that's basic supply vs demand. If you charge more in rent than it costs you then you are leeching a profit from the transaction. Private renting will always exist, there is a need for it, but it's a massive industry and plays a huge role in growing wealth inequality. Young people who could have entered onto the property ladder starting out 30-40 years ago become lifelong renters now, the cost of housing is so high.

Corona Virus on 13:44 - May 11 by londonlisa2001 | It tends to be warmer and sunnier here with less rain. Good at the moment, but in July and August it’s horrific and I’d far rather be somewhere where it’s a bit cooler. I was out with the dog this morning and it was pleasant. Cooler breeze today though. It was roasting on Friday and Saturday. Definitely not padded jacket weather though. |

If everyone is to go back to work it will ramp up as is the intention. This govt is pursuing a herd immunity through the back door. It has learned nothing at all over the last few months

With the vast amount of nationwide field hospitals now virtually empty, I've a feeling the Govt will be content with a potential 2nd peak knowing it won't overwhelm the NHS. There'll be a bed for anyone.
