When will those who voted leave admit they were done over?

I voted to remain and was never so annoyed about a political result than last June. It's taken me ages but I think its time that all remainers just accepted the result and move on. There was a huge turnout, information was there if people bothered to look and Leave vote one. Time to move on and get Brexit done.

Accepting the result is fine.

You can still call out all the bs. Highlight it. Make sure future generations don't fall for it again. Remembering this stuff is crucial.

Is it not newsworthy this man is a person of interest in the FBI Russia investigation?

Maybe we should have a referendum again on brexit but not for 10 years or so. Bit like on Scotland, they've had their and they chose to remain. They can have another one if SNP continue to be strong but not for another 10 years or so.

When we do have this referendum there will be completely different people and pros and cons involved in the debate.

It's fine to continue the debate though as you don't just stop debating after an general election result but I think we just need to wait to see how negotiations go with EU first.

I think people should focus on the utter state of UK politics rather than this continual points scoring I see nearly a year later from people of both sides. It's getting boring.

We were ALL lied to. I didn't believe the bs a year ago from both sides and I'm not believing the bs I'm hearing now in the run-up to next weeks election.

Every fking major promise they lie about or u-turn on or simply don't deliver on a grand scale yet none of them are brought to account over any of it.

More distraction / fake news.

If anything Farage and UKIP are a Tory trojan horse, they've just helped the Tories go even further to the right.

What is the obsession with Russia? We tried to demonise the country with Communism, now we're trying a different approach? Odd.

Nigel clearly also visited Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy for purely journalistic reasons; that he then didn't publish or persue.

But surely if a decision that will effect Everyone's lives was based on a series of lies from both sides then surely it should be null and void and not "the Voice of the People".

If I bought a car from a dealer because "it will never run out of petrol" and then it does, surely it is just that I would have some sort of restitution.

I like ol Nigel Farage. Stuck to his guns, took the abuse but put through what everyone thought was the impossible, a life times achievement, I admire him for that. How did the so called Elite Politicians get that part so wrong? Why call the referendum? Shows how out of touch they were.

The Eurosceptics never shut up, did they? No, they spent 40 years c*nting on about it, despite losing a referendum. So now I'm going to do the same. Everything I don't like I'm going to blame on Brexit and I'm going to ram it down the throat of every lying scrote who led us to this point.

As to Farage - is anyone surprised? He was a Nazi as a teenager and now he's cuddling up to a fascist like Putin. Got a nice few quid out of it too, and from the EU (£6,000 a month pension coming his way in 2019).

The same would then apply if the Remain vote had won and had been shown to be based on lies.

So what happens next?

Half in Half out?

Seriously, elections are won and lost on bull sh*t. So the Coalition of 2010 - the Lib Dems U turned on Student fees, does that mean they should have lost all their votes, not been able to be part of the coalition and the whole 2010 GE re-run? Course not, what a load of bollocks.

Couldn't agree more - and that's exactly why the referendum itself was a mistake. The fault here wasn't Boris or Farangski or Gideon or Ken Clarke it was with the Cowardice of Call Me Dave.

Do you think the Leavers would have accepted the result if they had lost? of course not. They'd be shouting about how unfair it was, and how the Remainers had lied to the electorate, and they'd be campaigning for a fresh referendum. There's no way that they would "accept the result and move on".

This was a disastrous result that is going to make us all worse off and diminish our rights. I'm not going to roll over accept it.

Yup, Dave was so sure of a Remain win he even boldly stated in the millions of leaflets he got printed at the Taxpayers expense that he would totally abide by the result, then stood down when Leave got the result.
Utter cock and shows how out of touch he/they are which is why I originally said on this thread that the public by and large should be questioning politics as a whole rather than constantly tittle-tattling with each other, which is exactly what the politicians want.

The majority of remainers have accepted the result and I believe the majority of the leavers would have accepted the result the other way. There was so much information out there on brexit that you did not need to listen to the politicians. People expect to be spoon fed these days. If some people did't understand what to do (and that seems to be the case), go and do some research on the internet and make an informed view.

I think he was right not to say that he would step down as that would have impacted the referendum one way or the other.

A few weeks ago the Observer published a major piece of investigative journalism about the EU Referendum, brilliantly detailed & backed up with fact showing how Leave won only with the resources and know-how of very, very shady mega-rich gits who had (of course) a huge vested interest in the outcome, knowing that it would accelerate inequality even further and effectively place this country entirely in the hands of the rich - which it unquestionably will, there's no doubt about that.

Unsurprisingly, it was ignored by the rest of the British media, who are now about as reliable as Pravda in its heyday. As for the nonsensical cant about 'respecting democracy', well, following the Reichstag Election of March 1933 - when Hitler & his coalition partners cobbled together enough votes to take power in Germany - the population there left well enough alone (whether out of fear or indolence) and a few years later opposition was outlawed. I think we all know what happened after that...that's what happens when electorates put up and shut up.

The truth is, Brexit - which should never have been on the table in any sane country - needs smashing out of sight. The fact that there is no substantial political will to do so means that we are in for potentially ten to twenty years of watching the slowest car crash in world history, before widespread civil unrest boils over and the scramble to rejoin the EU (which will thrive in the UK's absence, and take much of its prosperity) becomes so widespread that by comparison, the Iraq war will look like a model of public popularity.

As for Farage, well a more despicable turd you'll never share oxygen with (something I know from personal experience) but he pales into insignificance beside the mainstream creeps Johnson, Gove and Davis, who I predict will all one day flee this country with their miserable families once it looks like the fate of Mussolini is drawing closer for all of them.

Osborne warned him what would happen when Cameron made the decision in a pizza restaurant in an airport:

'It says much about David Cameron's relationship with George Osborne that they kept a lid on it. The decision to hold a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union was the most important Cameron made as prime minister — and his closest political ally, friend and adviser opposed it. Not just a little bit, but profoundly and wholeheartedly — and yet the disagreement did not leak.

It was late May 2012, and Cameron was just back from a NATO summit in Chicago. In a pizza restaurant at O'Hare Airport on the way home he had called a council of war with Ed Llewellyn and William Hague, his chief of staff and his foreign secretary, and decided he had no choice but to go into the 2015 general election with a pledge to hold a nationwide vote on the UK's relationship with the EU by the middle of the next Parliament. Just before he became prime minister, Cameron had remarked, 'I don't want Europe to define my premiership.' He had already discovered that was a forlorn hope.

'The biggest advocate of the referendum was William Hague,' a senior Downing Street official said. The foreign secretary told Cameron, 'You need to do this. I got killed by Europe. A Tory leader needs to nail this once and for all.'

George Osborne did not agree at all. The idea that the chancellor was concerned about the prospect of a referendum became known later, but few have appreciated quite how serious was his opposition. Osborne did not just think a referendum was a bad idea, he thought it was a disastrous idea. In successive meetings he was 'pretty hostile' to pressing ahead because he feared the vote would be lost. He warned Cameron he was taking a major risk that several uncontrollable forces would combine in a referendum campaign: 'anti-government sentiment, opportunism, genuine concern — and then you lose'. The picture Osborne painted was stark and prescient.'
