The club will look bad if we don't win, that's what I'm going to the Liberty for. 3points not 3 cheers for a man with no connection to Swansea City FC.

Fair enough.

Probably did it because it's showing respect rather than mourning. Never know though.

Did Nelson put his hand into his pocket when we were skint? Did he donate a few quid? Mel Nurse should get an applause every game we play out of respect.

He owns a house just down the road from the Globe Inn. You can stand outside it and clap for a bit on match days if you like.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I make sure I clap for one minute every morning before breakfast as a mark of respect for anyone who may be deemed worthy on that day.

Every sporting event in every country in the world will be showing respect over the next few days...do you really think the board and team are that thick as to ignore it completely?

Don t think so...it will be a long time, maybe not even in our lifetimes that we will see such a tribute being paid to an individual on the world stage of sport.

This is an extremely rare event...wise up ffs.

It'd be funny if the minute's applause turned into a silence on account of everyone refusing to clap because he's a terrorist like mun innit and he liked commies and stuff who probably blow up our buses when we're not looking and he was a bit black wasn't he like and what did he ever do for the Swans mun.

Mandela - the man who stopped racism in South Africa (what's that? Over 3000 white farmers and counting murdered by blacks since the ANC came to power. Maybe not then?)

Mandela - the man who made South Africa safe (um, no again. It is now one of the most dangerous countries on earth with a staggeringly high murder rate).

So basically he stuck up for his own like many before him. It's just the prevailing political ideology has turned him into a God.

The orthodox are always orthodox, regardless of the orthodoxy.

As I was alluding to before, as Ian Smith used to say, the Black man much happier under the White man. One man one vote-not in my life time.
Nobody suggesting MANDELA a saint, its what he did after his release that's the point which is he could have had the Afrikkaner (god chosen white African) wiped from the surface of the earth.
Suppose if you see school children being mown down you get a bit irate really.

You keep a whole race down, you disenfranchise, you take their land from them. ,You deny them basic human rights things gonna get tasty.
Incredible thread is this and proves racism alive and well in this former collousus of an Empire which didn't really do us much good in the end did it

Is there "racism" on this thread? Or just views that don't fit with the media narrative?

Actually to many that's probably the same thing.

Not seen a great deal of racism on here to be honest, Perch. Calling somebody a terrorist isn't being racist.

There's been very little racism in this thread, implied or explicitly stated.

Mandela was no saint. Hero? Aye. Saint? No. If it's true enough for him to admit it, then it's good enough for us not to pretend he was.

Well hang me but its an impression I get. Its also the case Ive not called anyone a racist per se.
Hope tgis isn't going to get nasty but have to say that given some of the things posted and in the context of general consensus world wide its an impression given that maybe wasn't intended.

I ll stay out of it now

There will be almost nobody in that ground tonight that knows the first thing about Mandela. Personally I find it appaling that young kids will be expected to applaud for a former key strategist of the ANC's armed wing. Forty years ago he would have been delighted to have seen them all dead. His wife would have revelled in the task.

So far as I can make out we are being asked to exalt that his bloodlust atrophied with the passing of the years, as if it were some latter day miracle.

Not me. Not tonight.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Wasn't aware that Mandela wanted the UK wiped off the map, but hey ho.

Totally agree that most don't understand the actions he took before being imprisoned, however it's difficult to say he's on the wrong end of the moral argument even if some of the atrocities he also committed were unacceptable. Plus, as was said elsewhere, his actions post-release were a big reason why SA isn't a bigger clusterfck than it is.

Messy old business.

I doubt if more than a handful of ANC killers could point out The UK on an atlas, Ux. Just being white would be enough for the lovely Winnie to want you fitted for a Soweto necktie.

It's hard to imagine South Africa being a bigger mess than it is now. It defies belief but SA is now a net importer of food. Incredible.

Yeah, imagine being persecuted and discriminated against because of the colour of your skin. Good job the blacks of South Africa never had to put up with anything like that.

It's funny how you're perfectly happy to write people off as terrorists while you don't have a bad word to say about their oppressors.
